AOMINE X READER - LOVE IS GONE

Start from the beginning

As time went by your teachers pressured you to go back to school, to study and work as a manager as you used to, and you had no choice but to obey. Looking at the walls where you first met Aomine and where your friendship bloomed... it's a knife turning in the wound, accompanied by a voice inside of you that loves to torture you:

You're at school, he's in a coma.

It gets worse when you step inside the gym.

You're on a basketball court, he's in a coma.

And if the situation weren't already excruciating like this, you meet your friends again after weeks.

You can chat with your friends, he's in a coma.

You never replied to their texts and calls, yet you can see deep understanding in their faces. As if you deserved to be understood and sympathized with.

You silently sit on the bench and open your folder, turning the pages while refraining yourself from showing any emotion: those sheets of paper have already seen too many of them. You distractively watch your clubmates practice, without managing to ignore the clear absence: it's not like you weren't used to it, Aomine used to skip a lot of practices at first and you always reproached him. But oh, how deeply would you want him to be skipping practice because of his laziness, today...

As soon as the coach ends the practice you gather your things and leave the gym as quickly as you can. You can't stay there a minute longer.

"Wait, (Name)!"

"What do you want, Imayoshi?"

"Just to talk. We haven't got the chance lately."

"Sorry, but I'll pass." – you reply getting away from him and that gym so full of memories.

"Stop running away, (Name). It's pointless."

"Shut up! I don't need you to tell me what to do!"

He lets out a sigh.

"Aomine will be fine, (Name). I flipped through your folder and saw that you took Aomine's pages away from it: do you really not believe in him anymore?"

"OF COURSE I BELIEVE IN HIM, YOU IDIOT!" – you scream with all the voice your lungs allow you to release – "I TOOK THEM AWAY BECAUSE THEY WERE SO DRENCHED WITH TEARS THAT YOU COULDN'T EVEN READ THEM! DO YOU GET IT?!"

You pant in anger. Your sight is foggy, but not enough to prevent you from seeing sorrow in his face.

"I'm sorry." – he whispers.

Without any warning, he gets closer to you and hugs you. A hug that you don't feel like returning, though.

"Not a single thing that happened that day is your fault, it was-"

"... that man on the truck's, yeah. It's not the first time I've heard this one."

He stays silent, looking for something to add.

"Listen, (Name). You didn't ask Aomine to throw himself under that truck from you, you didn't force him to risk his life for you: it was his choice. An impulsive decision, indeed, but a conscious one. He perfectly knew the consequences of his action, yet he made it. Do you know why?"

"Because he's a wonderful person?"

"Yes. But mostly, he did it because he loves you, (Name). He has always loved you, ever since the first months of high school. To him, there is nothing more important than you, not even his own safety."

Your watery, incredulous eyes are wide open.

"Even if that were true I...  I don't deserve it! It's not fair! I should be lying on a hospital bed, not hi-"
