⠀⠀⠀ Patience was not a foreign word in Amelia's vocabulary; she had heard the expression 'good things come to those who wait' more times than necessary and she understood the importance of possessing such a trait. More so, Amelia could be forbearing when necessary; she would get nowhere in her studies if she became frustrated with herself too easily.

⠀⠀⠀ But that was just the thing — she could only hold a decent amount of persistence with herself and herself alone.

⠀⠀⠀ So, when she arrived at Professor Slughorn's classroom on time for her detention and was told to wait, her temper flared for the hundredth time that day.

⠀⠀⠀ After making her way to her head of house, Professor Flitwick, earlier, Amelia had been informed that her detention would be spent helping out her potions teacher and therefore trekked down to the dungeons (not before she had a stern talking to about her 'incineration attempt' on Madam Pince's precious books).

⠀⠀⠀ Since then, Amelia had been forced to endure awkward small talk with Slughorn whilst they waited for the arrival of another ill-behaved student. The Ravenclaw had asked her professor why she couldn't get on with the task he had yet to clarify, in response, the man had explained that he wished to speak to the student directly about the chore they were set to complete.

⠀⠀⠀ If he wasn't her teacher, Amelia would have likely retorted with something snappy, but she had learned in her early years at Hogwarts that she couldn't quite get away with being overly short-tempered to her superiors.

⠀⠀⠀ Swinging on the back legs of the stool she had perched herself on, Amelia craned her neck to glance at the ancient clock suspended above the door. They were supposed to start at half six, it was now quarter to seven.

⠀⠀⠀ "Honestly," Slughorn sighed as Amelia debated pushing her chair back to the point the legs broke, and she would be incapacitated to the extent of evading her detention, "I shouldn't have expected anything less than tardiness from Mister Black."

⠀⠀⠀ The feet of Amelia's stool snapped back onto the stone floor as she swung forwards with excessive force. "Black?"

⠀⠀⠀"You called?" An agitating, smooth voice appeared in the open doorway.

⠀⠀⠀ Amelia closed her eyes, took a few deep breaths and genuinely wished for some form of catastrophe that could remove her from this situation as Sirius Black himself strolled leisurely into the room.

⠀⠀⠀ "I'm sure you have a good excuse for your late arrival?" Slughorn placed his hands on his hips, raising a displeased eyebrow.

⠀⠀⠀ In response, the boy held up his palms which were stained a deep red. Amelia's eyes narrowed at this, her brain making connections as she finally concluded who was to blame for the incident in the library that led her to this moment.
