If fate permits

bawling my eyes out as mitski plays
trying not to crash the car and it begins to rain
crying so hard i can't see a thing
memories playing in my head as i badly sing

stepping on your feet at prom night
i closed my eyes and held you tight
blocking out everyone around us
'cause i don't care about anyone else

we would lay in bed as i'd smell your hair
a scent i'd recognize anywhere
we'd play video games and talk for hours
i've never felt love as strong as ours

maybe one day we could try again
if we've healed enough and the time is right
maybe one day i won't feel so drained
and if fate permits, we'll make it work this time
