Y/n's View

"I changed my mind, I don't wanna marry you." Tate asks.

"What?" I ask.

"Hmm, marriage just isn't for me." Tate says.

"We got engaged 2 days ago and you already have cold feet?" I ask.

"We can still date, I'll just never marry you." Tate says.

"What's going on?" I ask.

Tate sighs and sits beside me.

"Ever since I was a kid, I saw so many people get married. And that was all I wanted. I wanted to spend the rest of my life with the love of my life. I had made up my mind that my dad walking me down the aisle would be the best part." Tate says.

"He can." I say.

"He's a dickhead." She says.

"Oh..." I say.

"My parents got a divorce and he just stopped calling and showing up." She says.

"Maybe he's changed." I say.

"Yeah, he's changed all right. All of a sudden he's a family man, got a new wife and apparently some kid." She says.

"My dad is 50 and he has an 8 year old. You had enough time to have another kid but now enough to contact your other kids?" She says.

"If I can't have my dad, I don't want it." She says.

"Do you know where he is?" I ask.

"No." Tate says.

"I can find—" I say.

"Please don't." Tate says.

"So am I supposed to just date you for the next 60 years and never get married?" I ask.

"Yeah." Tate says.

I sigh and shake my head.

Time Skip

Tucker said he hadn't deleted his dad's number so he gave it to me. I know Tate didn't want me to call him but I'm gonna do it anyway.

"Hello." The man asks.

"Uh, is this John McRae?" I ask.

"Yeah." He says.

"This is Y/n, I'm a... friend of Tate's." I say.

"Who?" John asks.

"Oh, her..." John says.

"Maybe you guys could reconnect." I say.

"I haven't talked to her in... 10 years." John says.

"Oh, so it was your fault you lost touch?" I ask.

"What's it to you? I don't even know how you got this number." John says.

"Tate's getting married!" I say.

"I remember when I got married... the second time. We had it on the beach and had our honeymoon in—" He says.

"It's not fucking about you!" I say.

"The point is, Tate wants her dad to walk her down the aisle. She'd be really disappointed if you didn't do it." I say.

"She still live in Canada?" He asks.

"Toronto, yep." I say.

"I guess we can get lunch." He says.

"Don't fucking say, I guess. You need to confirm it." I say.

"Yeah, yeah. I'll be there just text me." He says.

"Don't bring that woman or that kid. And definitely don't bring negative energy either." I say.
