A month and a half ago
It was our first game of the 2022 volleyball season up against Clemson. Everyone was nervous for the game because last season we lost to Clemson in the Championships 23 - 25. We were so close but so far at the same time.

Everyone goes out on the court and gets in their positions. I serve the ball and it stays in the air for about 2 minutes till falling on Clemson's side. That's a point for Ohio State I hear come through the speakers. I quietly celebrate and get back to business.

< an hour later >
We won 19 - 25 Clemson played a good game but not good enough to win.

After every win, we go out to dinner with the team to celebrate. We order our food and listen to coach talk about how good we did and how we need to keep it up. After we ate we had the option to stay or go back to our hotel my friend Lizzy begged me to stay with her at the bar. She just turned 21 so it's probably best that I stay.

About an hour goes by and this familiar face comes up and sits next to me.
"May I order you a drink?" He asked me
"Sure but don't make it anything too strong I'm on babysitting duty tonight" I laugh
"Yeah I got you, can I get two of your sex on the beach drinks" he orders

As we waited on our drinks I decide this is probably a good time to ask for his name.
"So what's your name?," I asked
"I'm Joe." He says
"I'm Cora, your name sounds so  familiar did you use to go to Ohio State?" I ask
"Yeah well I did but I transferred to LSU for football." He says
Ohhh I got ya I would've done the same for volleyball." I say with a smile

We got out drinks and after a couple of sips, I ask the big question.
"so what's your last name," I ask with a little bit of hesitation in my voice.
"oh it's um Burrow," He says and everything comes back to me. He was a junior when I was a freshman. He graduated my sophomore year I didn't know him but his girlfriend was on the volleyball team.
"Ohhh you dated Sidnei Rose," I say and instantly regret it.
" Yeah" He awkwardly replied

"So how was LSU?" I ask trying to keep the conversation going.
"it was good I took our team to win the championship." He says and you can hear the pride in his voice.
"that's amazing, that's the big dream I have for volleyball this year. Take them to win the championships my senior year. I say and realize how cocky it sounded.
" That's an amazing dream to have Cora," He said

After about an hour of talking, I realized it was 1 am and Lizzy should probably slow down on the alcohol.
"Well I gotta get the baby home could I get your number or something?" I ask my heart was beating fast and I couldn't tell if it was the little bit of alcohol or the feelings I never had for him till now.

" yeah, you can get my number don't know why I never gave it to you in college." He says why reaching for an old napkin and he wrote down his number.
"Well probably because I wasn't trying to get murdered by Sidnei my freshman year," I say and see a smile grow across his face
"Well, Mrs. Cora you get home safe and text me in the morning." He says why handing me his number on the napkin.

It took me about an hour to get drunk Lizzy to the hotel. I said fuck it with taking her to her room and just took her to mine.

The next morning
It was about 10 am when I woke up. I woke up to the lovely sounds of Lizzy learning how to manage alcohol consumption the hard way.

I got out of bed and went to the sink for some water and see a napkin sitting on the countertop. Then I remembered everything from the night before.

I ran across my hotel room and grabbed my phone and put in the number.
