"Jong-Dae!" My older brother yelled, "You're going to stay on the highway of being late to school if you don't wake up right now!"
I pick myself up out of bed, strands of hair sticking up from moving around in my bed as I slept. I've never been good at waking up in the morning without a little help from Sung-Hyun or Aecha. Yes, my little Aecha. The final sibling my mother would ever bring into this world alive. My mother Daeun, fought tooth and nail to bring Aecha into this world and now, Aecha is only 13 and a spitting image of her already. Do you see her mother? She never once met you but she acts and looks like you. Makes your reciepies perfectly, and smacks our hands with the spatula, just like you did when we picked at the food before it was served.
I button up my shirt quickly and grab my blazer. I rush downstairs ruffling up my hair after I had just brushed it, to smell fried eggs and rice made my brother. He sets the plate of food in front of me. "Hurry up and eat." Hyung ordered, "Since you wanted to savor your dream you don't get to savor your food as you please." I roll my eyes, I swear hyung is talking more of mom's iconic household lines as he grows older. I miss her too Hyung.
As I walk toward the gates of the school, I see a familair head of hair. Curly locks of brown hair swaying as she walkes. Her purple nails shimmering in the light. She got glitter this time. I never thought Soon-Yi would actually convince her to get glitter on top of the purple base coat. Angel looks so beautiful. Though I could expect nothing less but beauty from her. I fight the urge to wrap her in my arms and call her mine. Telling her how special she is to me. I've known her for such little time yet I feel like I can tell her just about anything. For now, I just wrap my arm around her shoulder to surprise her.
"O-Oppa you scared me!" She exclaimed.
"I'm sorry angel I just had to." I say to her with a chuckle.
That name she calls me. "Oppa". Only Aecha ever calls me that, yet it still has a difference in when Aecha says it, versus Bridget. When she says it, my heart fluttters like it'll fly straight out of my chest. I normally let everyone talk casually to me since I don't normally care to keep up with the honorifics but with her, she has such a cute tone of voice. She so cute. She's so beautiful. However, there is only one thing getting in the way of making Bridget mine forever.
Lee Sae-Ran.
One of the things that I hate the most is loosing, and I refuse to loose such a beautiful girl to a short stack like him. Sae-Ran has all of the girls in the school at the palm of his damn hand, versus me, girls admire me from affar because I look too intimidating for an in-person conffession. I always hear them whispering. I know exactly what they're saying. Versus Sae-Ran, he gets a whole line practically just for confessions on Valentine's Day. As much as my intimidating face could be useful for protecting those I care about, I would love if someone came to me and confessed in front of me instead of a piece of paper. That's what I love about Angel, she's not afraid to approach me and joke around with me. She's the only person in this school who sees me for me rather than my looks.
Sae-Ran greets Angel with a smile, calling her "Princess". I hate when he calls her that. It's so funny that he starts calling her Princess the moment I start calling her Angel, so therefore I know that he gave her that nickname to one-up me. Sly bastard.
"Hey Angel," I say, " I don't know if you've noticed, but ever since Chae-Na was taken out of this school, no one bothers you anymore."
Bridget smiles and takes a deep sigh of relief. "Yes, and I'm glad it's all over." She said, "Though I wonder if anyone is going to cat call me again."
Soon-Yi frowns and starts punching the air. "They can try it, but they'll hear from me." She responded.
...........................................................................................................................................................
Time goes by so slowly. I'm a little jealous of Soon-Yi . To be able to sit next to her and have such a beautiful view in front of you throughout school hoyrs must be a dream. Just a little longer, Jong-Dae, just a little longer until lunch time and you'll be able to ask her what you want to ask her.
"Are you thinking about that girl again, Jong-Dae?" My best friend Hong-Seok asks me while we're working on a partnered assignment for Physics.
"I have no idea what you're talking about." I reply casually.
"That Bridget Lorder girl that you always hang out with. I see you make goo-goo eyes at her all the time man."
"What do you mean goo-goo eyes?" I exclaim.
"Boys!" Our teacher repremanded, "Focus on your project and not girls."
"Will do, teacher!" Hong-Seok responded.
He lowered his voice to a whisper, "You seriously need to ask her out already. She's quite the looker if you ask me. Maybe I should shoot my shot."
I grabbed his arm and squeezed it tightly. "Don't. you. even. dare." I say sternly through gritted teeth.
"Then hurry up and ask her out already before Lee "Agyeo" Sae-Ran snags her off the market. Then you can date her friend. Soo- Ja right?"
"Soon-Yi, you scatter-brained idiot." I corrected, "She's only friend in my eyes."
"Right, her. Still, you need to snag Bridget before it's too late dude."
In a way, Hong-Seok is right. Bridget is as beautiful as an angel. Beautiful as a princess. No a queen. She deserves someone who can make her happoy and at the same time, protect her. I know I can give her what she deserves, I know I can protect her, cherish her, take care of her. Mark my words Lee Sae-Ran, I won't give her up. Not without a fight.
