Chapter Thirty Five- He Was A Closed Book

The only people that were missing were Sarah and Ben because Sarah's family were having some kind of event, and Xander, the one person I wanted here the most.

He said he was coming over.

Caleb must have noticed my confusion and answered my unspoken question about where his brother was. "He had to help dad out with something but he's still coming." He whispered so only I could hear.

The fact that he knew exactly what I was thinking made me seem pathetic. Did I really make it that obvious, or did Caleb just know me that well? I decided not to think too much into it and grabbed my laptop, placing it on the bookshelf where it usually stayed so we could move the table away from the centre of the room.

Chris was the first to start moving things around in the living room by pushing the couches against the walls to make space. "So, how are we setting this up?"

"I was just going to bring a few mattresses down from upstairs and set it up that way. Reckon we can fit at least 3 and still have space to move around." I shrugged, helping him shuffle things around as the others did the same.

"You sure we can get them downstairs?" His eyes darted to the open staircase, trying to figure out if we could manage to carry the king mattresses down the stairs successfully. "Cass, come help me."

Cass didn't need much convincing to follow behind him, and I guess Jake and Caleb took that as a sign to go and grab the other mattress too. I knew none of them actually wanted to help out, they just wanted the opportunity to be alone for a moment, especially now that everyone was in a good place.

Caleb and Jake had that much-needed conversation after I told Caleb he needed to be open with Jake more. It seemed to help a lot considering they were inseparable again. Cass and Chris had recently decided to take things to the next step and went on their first official date the other day.

I'm happy for them. They balance each other out, and I've noticed that Chris tends to smoke a lot less now that he's seeing her, which is good because I was starting to grow a little worried with how often he was getting high.

I set on trying to bring my mattress down by myself and laughed to myself as I heard bickering between the two couples about the best way to carry a mattress. They had started with the ones in the spare bedrooms.

"Need any help with that?" A male voice came from the doorway just as I managed to get my mattress off my bed and turn it on its side. Xander stood at the end of the room with an amused smile as he watched me attempt to do this by myself.

"I think I can manage." I huffed, blowing a piece of hair that fell into my face as I slid the object across the floor, determined to do this on my own.

He held his hands up in surrender making his white t-shirt raise slightly and show off his tanned skin. "If you say so, princess." He said with a playful tone in his voice as his eyes roamed across the words on my pyjama top.

Now that he was here, my choice of pyjamas seemed kind of embarrassing.

Here he was wearing grey sweatpants and a tight-fitting top that seemed so simple yet drool-worthy, and here I was in my silky princess pyjamas. At least my shorts were cute.

"Ugh fine, can you please help me?" I caved in after my unsuccessful attempts at getting the king mattress out of my bedroom. He nodded and grabbed the other side, lifting it off the ground and waited for me to do the same before we made our way downstairs. He went first, taking most of the weight and finally we managed to get it into the living room.

The only space left to put it was at the far end of the room beside the dining room door, but there was still enough space to shuffle around for people going in and out of the room.
