Chapter 2: The Prison

Start from the beginning

'I know it's impossible but... I hope the door is open...'

He slowly approached the door and grabbing the knob tried to pull it towards him.

*Crack*

Unable to believe his eyes the door opened.

'They put you in an open room? I hope the blindfolded goddess will not abandon you now and may accompany you to the exit of this purgatory."

Opening the door he checked that there were no guards watching the cells, the only thing he saw however was a long corridor with a few medieval torches hanging along the walls, his was the last of the cells in the corridor and no guards were present. His field of vision was limited, as after about ten metres the corridor changed direction, so he was not completely sure.

As he exited, he walked very slowly past the cell of the phantom voice that was disturbing him. A gentleman in his fifties, completely malnourished to the point that his bones were visible, was handcuffed to the wall with a bandage covering his eyesight. Looking at him in that condition, the fear he felt towards him ceased and compassion took its place.

"Sir... May I ask him for what reason he was imprisoned?..."

"Oh... Are you still here?... One of my spells allows you to turn stones into precious ores, the king when he found out locked me in here, accusing me of actually stealing from his treasure room. He was probably just scared that the people would get too rich and I wasn't smart enough not to suspect him...."

Coughs interrupted the prisoner, who was no longer used to speaking.

"I see..."

Although he felt pity for the poor prisoner, at that moment he had to think about getting out of the prison unharmed, and giving him one last look he began to walk down the corridor, hoping that he could be saved somehow.

Silence reigned supreme in the labyrinth that was referred to as the prison, all the cells were empty and his only company were the torches along the way, which barely illuminated the way for him.

"Oi Swen, do we have to feed that rascal today too?"

"Don't worry, he will finally be executed tomorrow anyway. We can finally go back to patrolling the streets and frequenting the brothel."

"Finally! I was fed up with having to spend all my days in this sewer hole, I can't stand being able to breathe fresh air only in the morning and at night."

Nemesis stopped short on hearing the two guards' voices and hid in one of the branches of the labyrinthine paths, hoping they would not notice him.

'I know I have no reason to help that gentleman and I don't even know if he told me the truth... however I don't want him to die alone... After all, he did nothing wrong...'

Taking one of the stones from the ground he began to slowly follow the guards. Obviously he had no idea how he could save the lord, but he decided to help him anyway.
