Adam had been so excited to get transferred to the Intelligence Unit, that was his goal since he joined the academy a year ago.

The timind man, that had run out once he learnt the case they were chasing, had Adam curious from the beginning. He seemed to hold so many secrets on ever tense shoulders.

As the two women, and timid man walked back in, Hank started listing the new partners seeing and there was now a new guy upstairs.

"So, Hailey and Erin will be together, Al and myself, Kev your going to work with Antionio going forward, and Adam you afe going to go with Jay" Hank ordered, Jay sighing, as he only liked working with Antionio

"I think it woild he best for me to stay-" Antionio was cut off by Hank who gave him a sharp glare

"No, Halstead will he with Ruzek" and nobody else questioned it

Everyone looked towards Jay, the guy just shook his head, and started making his way downstairs to his truck. No matter who his partner was, everyone knew Jay drove.

Adam slowly walked towards Jay, with his gear all on, and smiled at the guy who just avoided his gaze almost like he didn't want Adam to know his secrets.

"Jay, I know you work with Antonio, but I'm really looking forward to be partnered with you" Adma said, noticing a small smile appear on his new partners face

"I have a hard time with new people, give me time yea, as long as you've got my back through everything" Jay said, showing vulnerability to a guy he didn't even know

The two drove in silence, until they were about ten minutes away, when Adam noticed that the dectectives breathing was getting raspy and his fave was paler by the minute.

Instead of words, Adam placed his hand on the shaking dectectives knee, smiling comfortingly at the veteran when he turned to him.

"You're fine, I've got your back all the way" Adam promised, holding out his pinky like he did as a child, chuckling softly as the dectective did the same

"Thank You" Jay whispered, his breathing calming knowing he had another friend to watch his back

When they arrived at the scene, Adam locked the doors and allowed his partner a couple of minutes to collect himself, and allowed the younger detective to decide when he was ready to get out of the car.

Adam looked out and saw the team waiting for them, but he gave them a sign to give them two minutes. It was as if they understood just by looking at Jay who had his eyes shut and breathing deeply beside Adam.

"Can you stay with me, I don't want to go alone" Jay whispered after about a minute of silence

"Of course, we're stuck together now" Adam jokes, smiling when Jay chuckled

Together the two men jumped out of Jays Ford Raptor and walked over to the rest of the team, Hank smiling thankfully at Adam who just saluted back at him.

"Ok, so we have three confirmed dead, and one critically injured, but something doesn't add up" the foresenic dectective said

"What do you mean?" Erin asked, carefully walking through the bloodied flat

"One of the DOAs has a hand missing, and theres no sign of it in the flat anywhere" She continued

"Thats not his normal take to murders, he usually tortures them, and then kills them" Jay whispered, his eyes taking in every detail of the crime scene

"It's definitely him, the way they've been attacked his him, and the green nail polish too" Hailey said, wincing as she noticed Jay gag slightly

"Hey Jay, shall we see if we can get any witness statements" Adam said, also notcing the paling of the dectectives face

Three hours later, and the team was back at the Bull Pen talking over what they had found, when Butges, who worked patrol came upstairs requesting Jay to come downstairs as a parcel had been delivered for him.

The timid veteran wlaked over to the desk to see a cardboard box sat on the front desk. Taking the parcel knife from Trudy, the man nervously opened the box, the Intelligence Team watching from behind.

Adam watched his timid partner open the box, and ran to catch the man as he fell backwards, and rubbing his back as the man violently retched.

Hank walked towards the box, and also had a sbiver go down his body as he saw the hand from the murdered young woman that was holding a picture of Jay at the crime scene, with the text "Have you missed me solider?"

"He was at the scene, he has been following Jay" Trudy said, as she pulled ten more photos from the box, all time lined in the last 24 hours

Hank pulled Adam aside, Erin tkaing his place in calming the shaken man.

"You up for staying with Halstead for a couple days, until this is sorted" Voight asked the new officer

"Of course, he's my partner, we look out for each other" Adam said, not even thinking about it

"He won't tske well to it, the only person who has rver stepped into his flat is Erin" Hank explained, but Adam promised the sergeant he would tread with nothing but respect

Hank decided it would he best that the news of his new partner staying at his flat would need toncoke himself. So once the man had clamed down enough, he pulled him into his office.

At first Jay was angry, and betrayed but then he got upset. He hated people seeing him as a weak veteran who coudln't handle the world on his own.

Seeing he got upset, hank called Adam over who quickly reassured the man that there would be no judgement passed. He advised him he kust wanted to make sure his oartner was safe and also would be a good time to properly get to know each other.
