"Wawa and Sukii meh na play wid uunuh clean up mi gadamn house now!"
"Here she go." Sukii mumbled "She finna come in here like 'uunuh di lamp up inna mi gadamn hou'-"
"Uunuh in here di lamp 'roun' like notin' wrong! Get uunuh lazy ass up now!" she came in the room and I looked at her
"Grandma weh you waan us fi clean?" Sukii asked her "Me washroom dirty uunuh ass!" she said
"Weh yuh talk? Yuh check uh washroom yet?" I asked her. I literally just cleaned it. That's how I know she bullshit bro. Just wanna yell.
"Nuh question me inna mi gadamn house! Tank you!" she walked away
"Cho? Bwaii mi affi tell yuh." Sukii said and I shook my head.
My grandma is a Belizean woman. My whole family was born there including Sukii and I. We came to the states a few years back so that we can live the American dream. I was fine with my Belizean dream.
"Yuh come wid meh to duh corna?" Sukii asked me and I shrugged getting up "Yuh know wah I waan?" I asked her putting on my shoes
"Tell me."
"Orange walk tacos." I said and she nodded in agreement.
"Evadney! We'a go down to da corna yuh waan somtin?!" Sukii yelled "Nuh call mi muh name! Get mots balls!" she yells back as we go down the stairs
"I wah go back home ah Belize." I mumbled leaving the room. Life in the states isn't as thrilling as I thought it would be.
You're always judged here and you get looked at funny for having a different style of doing everything then you get treated like pup when you speak.
My mom was scared for us to talk when we first got here cause we didn't have our papers yet for about 4-5 months and even when we did she would make us keep quiet in public.
We started making our way to the corner store holding random conversations.
"Oooh I wah go to da park wid all of the caribbean eno." Sukii said "Cho? Eentime da one guy affi 'pinky how you so short'." I said making her laugh
"Wawa dah one time man get ova it."
"Nuh chru 3 times." I said and she laughed "He dah butu anyhow nuh pay him any mind."
There's this place called Leimert Park where they have big festivals and it's mainly a black thing. They have different foods, hygienes, cultures, music everything. It's the only thing that really keeps us close to home.
"Look paan deh bali ova dah check yuh." Sukii teases "Sukii nuh talk so." I smacked my lips
The corner store wasn't that far at all. There were always guys with hoodies hanging by the door like security guard.
But there was this guy that I was staring at as he got in my view and sure enough he was staring back. Nee target.
As we got closer he had a sly smirk. "Him affi be cocky." I whispered to Sukii and she started to laugh
"What's up with you ma?"
I nuh this bwaii ma?
"Hi." I gave him a small smile walking past him
"Sukii why dah bwaii call me he ma?" I asked her and she laughed. "Him nuh mean madda, him say like babe."
"Mi nuh know him like dah." I shook my head grabbing a coconut water. "Loosen up." she chuckled
I grabbed 2 packs of moth balls and went to the register to wait on her. The boys came in and I moved from the register then I seen Sukii coming.
"What's ya name?" the guy from earlier asked me "Wawa" I kept it short.
