The other Cassandra was another figment of his imagination. There was no other Cassie. He was playing out hurt.
He was imagining Cassie from different perspectives.
The other Cassie was another version of the original and what he felt like would happen if he did confess his love for her and she agreed.
Wilbur is afraid of being hurt and so he played a scenario of her hurting him. Her hurting him in the worst way possible. His career. That is his one way of dealing with stress. It was his way of preparing himself for the ultimate pain.
When his career shattered he couldn't handle it because that was his way of coping. If he didn't have that he felt he had no way of handling himself and that's why he gave up.
5. Techno's Role
As we all know, Techno in the book was basically the one who was in control. Another thing that was not actually put out was the that Techno was the one who actually brought Wilbur.
Wilbur made up the void, the alternative reality, and unfortunately he made up Techno's appearances. He was never dead nor was he in any type of void with Techno.
He imagined Techno because that was his previous way of coping. When Techno passed irl, it hurt Wilbur and that why his career became his coping mechanism. He had nothing else.
Techno was there because Wilbur imagined him up as the person who could help him.
6. Cassie in the void
The Cassie in the void was Wilbur's guide back to reality. She was pulling him through and warning him. She was helping him try and realize nothing there was real. Although she gave him false warnings as it seemed she was not giving him any false warnings at all.
She actually helped him break through his problems.
If anyone really noticed Cassie wasn't always around, but when she was...she was guiding Wilbur. Giving him multiple warnings. That is why he felt the need to be around her at all times.
He was the only thing keeping him attached to what was real and what was fake, had she not been there he probably would have been lost. He wouldn't know what was real and what was fake.
7. Tommy
TW// Mentions of suicide
Tommy represented to Wilbur what he would do to others if he was to give up.
As you guys read, Tommy was present when Wilbur killed himself. Tommy immediately tried to do the same because he looked up to Wilbur.
Tommy not only represented himself, but Wilbur's fans.
A lot of people look up to Wilbur and adore him. He's an inspiration to so many and seeing him hurt would hurt them, some physically, some mentally, and some emotionally. Some of them might react the same way Tommy did.
Tommy represented how important Wilbur was to others. It helped him realize that it wouldn't be worth it to hurt himself because there will always be people who look up to him no matter what. Tommy was the pill he needed to understand his place in the world.
8. Lesson Learned
When Wilbur left his hallucination, Cassie was still with him. Upon seeing her he is immediately filled with gratitude and immediately confesses his love for her.
There was no lesson learned.
He taught it to himself. Throughout his whole journey he taught himself the importance of self control.
He taught himself to fight his fear because it would be worth it.
The fear of commitment is what started the hallucination and what ended it. He knew he loved her and he was forcing himself to see that things happen. Seeing her still there when he got up was the push he needed to confirm his thoughts.
Had she not been there maybe the story would have ended differently, but I felt he deserved a happy ending and indeed he did.
