"Hey Dustin" y/n spoke as her brother walked through the front door
"you have fun at Mike's?" she asked as he sat down next to her on the couch, looking towards the TV to see her watching The Evil Dead.
"yeah, the campaign was ten hours! but just before Will fireballed the Demogorgan, the dice rolled off the table and then before we could find it, Mike's mom said it was time for us to leave. Will said he rolled a seven but Mike didn't see it so it didn't count"
"wow, ten hours!? how long were you planning it for?"
"about two weeks, and don't act so surprised, you used to play it all the time so you should know how long the campaigns can be" y/n just nodded as they both carried on watching the movie.
"you see Nancy?" she smirked without looking away from the TV
"what? no! it doesn't matter! I don't even know why you're asking me, I don't have a crush on her" Dustin defended as y/n turned her head and just smiled at him. Blood had rushed to his cheeks but he didn't look happy with her. They didn't speak for a minute or two until Dustin spoke up
"Where's mom?" y/n looked up at their clock
"uhh, she'll be home from work any minute, so you better get ready for bed because it's a school night"
"fine" he groaned as he pushed himself up off the couch and kicked off his shoes, leaving them in the middle of the floor
"Dustin!"
"sorry y/n, I'm too far away to hear you!" he shouted as he closed the door of the bathroom. y/n rolled her eyes, threw to fluffy blanket off of her and stood up off the couch to move his shoes to where they should be before she turned off the TV and got ready for bed herself.

High school for y/n was boring. She didn't really have any close friends and classes didn't interest her at all. She was always able to pass all of her classes without studying for them but she didn't really excel in anything. At lunch, she would sit with the 'band freaks' because they were all nice to her and they included her. The one who spoke to her most was called Robin Buckley, they were closer friends than anyone else but not close enough to be considered best friends. y/n was the only person that Robin trusted enough to know that she was a lesbian and of course y/n was happy that she was her true self. Robin even helped y/n figure out that she was bisexual. Other than Robin, she didn't really talk to anyone else, she'd occasionally speak to Nancy Wheeler and Barb Holland, and it wasn't as if people hated her, she just hated people and their stupid questions.
"do you know your real parents?"
"what's it like being adopted?"
"do you ever feel less loved then your brother?"

At home, as y/n was leaving her bedroom, she heard Dustin talking on his walkie talkie. Him, Lucas and Mike were planning on sneaking out and looking for Will. y/n just leaned on his doorframe and watched him. After their conversation ended, y/n cleared her throat, causing his head to whip around and look at her
"how much of that did you hear?" he asked
"enough to know that I'm coming with you" she told him and he walked over to her
"no, you can't come with us, you shouldn't even know about this"
"either I come with you, or you don't go and I tell their parents" she bargained, to which he rolled his eyes
"hey, look at it like this, I come with you, I get peace of mind knowing you're safe, and if you get caught, I'll be the one to take the blame" Dustin thought for a moment, out weighing the costs and the benefits, ultimately decided that it was better if his sister went with them.

When they met up with the other two, it was dark outside, and at first they were resisting until Dustin explained why she was going with them and they eventually came around.

"Ah, man. This is it." Lucas said as they arrived at 'Mirkwood', where Will went missing. Thunder rumbled as they stepped off their bikes causing Dustin to look up and say
"Hey, guys. You feel that?" he wiped a raindrop off his face and then spoke again
"I think maybe we should go back."
"No. We're not going back." Mike said, y/n turned on her flashlight and slowly started to walk forward and climbed over the barrier
"Stay close to me. Come on." she said as she looked back at the boys
"Just stay on channel six. Don't do anything stupid." Mike said as he followed y/n
"Hey, guys, wait up. Wait up!" Dustin called. y/n stopped and waited for her brother.
"don't worry, okay? I'll keep you safe" she told him, he smiled at her as his body physically felt less tense and then they continued to go deeper into the woods.

"Will! Will!"
"Byers!"
"I've got your X-Men 134!" the thunder had only gotten louder and more frequent, and the rain was pouring, everyone was drenched.
"Guys I really think we should turn back."
"Seriously, Dustin? You wanna be a baby, then go home already!"
"I'm just being realistic Lucas." Dustin argued
"No, you're just being a big sissy!"
"hey! stop that!" y/n defended her brother
"Do you ever think Will went missing because he ran into something bad? And we're going to the exact same spot he was last seen? And we have no weapons or anything?"
"Dustin, shut up." Mike whispered
"I'm just saying, does that seem smart to you?"
"no, seriously Dustin, shut up" y/n whispered
"Did you guys hear that?" twigs snapped and movement was heard around them. y/n moved to stand in front of the kids and they all turned and found the source of the noise. A little girl, who couldn't have been any older than the boys, she had a shaved head and was wearing an oversized, yellow Benny's Burgers t-shirt. She looked terrified as she stared at the group and her tiny frame was shivering. y/n took off her coat and slowly walked towards the girl who stepped back in hesitation
"we don't want to hurt you, okay? we want to help" after a minute or two, the little girl's face slightly softened as she stepped forward again, allowing y/n to wrap her coat around her. They all began to head back through the woods and then back to Mike's house.
