Safety

She shifted in her sleep
Under the shelter that covered her
Keeping her safe
Unaware of the people not able to afford that safety
People limping through the deserted area
Trying to find a home
That never was
And never could be
Slipping in and out of reality
Clawing onto food and water
Anything to keep them alive
Shaking under the stress
Of keeping them and their loved ones safe
But despite the chaos
The broken lives of some people
The girl still sleeps
Because she, unlike some
Has a roof over her head
And food in her stomach
And for that
She should be thankful
