chapter 1 babysitting (Jaden)

"yo Blair can you do a equipment check?" I ask my friend
"Sure Jay." She answers
"We have 5 good quality knives 2 knives that need to be repaired 2 machetes 30 arrows one of our bows need to be fixed food is good to last us the year so is the water we good for medical care but I'm not sure how long that'll last the guns will need more ammo soon we have 3 grenades and two flares left." she lists them off
"Alright so what do you think I'll need for today?" I ask her
"Maybe some herbs just in case otherwise we good while you're out I'll pack the stuff up in the trunk we should leave towards sunrise tomorrow." she answers
"Alright won't be gone long." I tell her
I pack some knives and a machete as I head out
"Not taking a bow?"she questions me
"nah I know the woods plus should worse come to worse you should have most of the materials just in case." I explain to her
she nods I leave the house

I decided to walk towards the riverbank sense the best ingredients for her stuff is made around here and maybe I'll get some fish along the way as I'm walking I hear a child screaming
"Ah shit Blair would kill me if I brought her back but she'd also kill me for leaving a kid out here."
I run towards the child as she tumbles towards the river I pull my hood up just in case then I dash towards the child I see a zombie crawling towards her I throw a knife at it's hand cutting it off as I get close to the child I pull out my machete and stab the zombie in the head
"w-who are you?" The child questions me
"The names Jaden but most call me Jay." I answer
"How long you been out here kid?" I question her
"A day M-Mr.grimes told me to stay in the road but I got scared."she answers
"they around here?" I question the kid
"Yeah we have a camp up there." She answers point over a hill
"Okay kid let get some herbs for my friend then we'll discuss what we're going to do with you." I tell her
"okay Mr.jay"she answers now with a smile
"just call me Jay kid I'm not old enough to be called Mr yet." I tell her
"Alright Jay then you just call me Sophia or Soph instead of kid." she tells me
"Alright soph now let's head out." I tell her as she follows close behind me
I look at the plants and see if any match the book that Blair showed me.
I see a broad leaf plantain which I remember being used for insect bites.
I picked it up and decided that alot of these I didn't know but I decided to grab them anyway
"Well soph ready to see a good friend of mine?" I question the girl
"yeah I'm ready Jay."she tells me
as nightfall is coming we head back to mine and Blair's house when I see the truck opened just in case I leaned against the wall and wait for someone to come out I see Blair
I knock on the wood two times so she knows I'm not a enemy then a third time so she knows I brought someone
"Hey Blair before you get pissed at me this little girl apparently got separated from her group I couldn't in good health let her die." I tell Blair
"Yeah I know Jay but life about to get a whole lot harder now that we're worrying about a child and a potentially hostile group."Blair responds
"Eh we can take em if worse comes to worse Sophia here was telling me about her group there's only 3 that'd be a problem for us and only ones a hunter." I tell Blair
"Mr.grimes and everyone else are nice mr.shane is mean sometimes though so they won't try anything." Sophia says in a quite voice
Blair just sighs
"Can you fight kid?" Blair questions
"No but I can learn if it gets me back to my momma." She answers
"Good enough for me listen whenever one of us is out hunting or gathering you'll be training with the one that's here we'll search for your group tomorrow if we don't find them in a week I'm sorry kid but we can't keep looking for them." Blair laid down the ground rules
"Okay Ms I promise I won't let you down." Sophia says now more confident
and with that I take Sophia to a extra room so she can sleep
"If a walker calls yell me or Blair will be right there." I tell her before she lays down
I head downstairs to find Blair leaning on a counter
"Jay what the hell is wrong with you?" Blair questions me
"Look if you can look me In the eye and tell me you be okay with leaving that child alone I think we should split up." I tell her seriously
"that's not the damn point and you fucking know it. Look we can't take care of her."she tells me
"you don't think I know that?" I question her
"Then why'd you do it?"she responds
"Because she needed help." I answer
"fucking fuck we where supposed to be out today alright let me pull out the fucking map."Blair gives up

She pulls out the map which shows places that where raised places that be good hideout where the zombies are mostly located
"Did she tell you where they were?" She questions me
"Yeah the where deep into the forest." I pointed towards the location
"Alright going off of that if she was out there for a day then they must've got hit by zombies. but they might still be around the area so come sunrise will take the truck and hit up the surrounding area. but on the off chance they could've made it to that farm we where looking into. so we should find them within two days at best at worst it might actually take the whole week."she maps out a plan
"Alright then think you can handle Sophia while I see what I can get from the pharmacy?" I question her
"Sure I'll be teaching her close quarters so that she'll be able to defend herself." She answers
"Alright just don't bruise her or her group might actually be hostile towards us." I tell her
"No problem so with this I guess I'll take watch tonight you did it last time so it's only fair." she told me
"Alright see ya tomorrow Blair." I pass out right there

So I wanted to try something different normally when I read Twd fanfics where she was saved Daryl is the one who finds the character with Sophia this is a good twist also so to point some stuff out
Blair and Jaden are not together they'll be having more of a brother sister relationship solely because I have plans for both of them now character details

Oh also there will be blood there will be gore mentions of rape and child abuse racism sex and torture I'll try to make these as short as possible but when it's a backstory thing I won't be able to do anything so I'll put a warning
