They were all seated around the makeshift table, while Anakin sat between Freya and his mother.
Jar Jar had been sitting next to Freya who gave him a disgusted look at his poor etiquette.
He was slurping his soup rather loudly. Everyone looks at him. He turns a
little brighter red.
"All slaves have transmitters placed inside their bodies somewhere." Anakin's mother told them. Freya looked at Padme and back to Anakin.
"I've been working on a scanner to try and locate them, but no luck." He said sadly.
"Any attempt to escape..." She started and Anakin finished for her,
"...and they blow you up...poof!"
Freya looked down and sighed. She didn't even remember that she had a transmitter in her body. Anakin placed his hand on hers making her half smile to him.
"How wude." Jar Jar said. Padme looked disgusted. She was glad that she had freed Freya all those years ago.
"I can't believe there is still slavery in the galaxy. The
Republic's anti-slavery laws..." she started but Anakin's mother interrupted her,
"The Republic doesn't exist out here...we must survive on our own."
An awkward silence entered the room and Anakin attempted to end the embarrassment by talking to Freya.
"Have you ever seen a Podrace?" He asked. She shook her head no. Jar Jar stuck out his tongue and tried to snatch food from the end of the table but Freya hit his tongue and gave him a dirty look, "Manners." She told him. He blushed and looked down.
"They have Podracing on Malastare. Very fast, very dangerous." Qui-Gon told Anakin. He nodded and looked at Qui-Gon, "I'm the only human who can do it."
Shmi looked at her son and he shrugged, "Mom, what? I'm not bragging. It's true. Watto says he's never heard of a human doing it."
Qui-Gon could feel the force within the boy as well as Freya. He'd noticed it from the moment he'd come into her presence.
"You must have Jedi reflexes if you race Pods." He said. Anakin smiled and looked at Freya.
Jar Jar attempted to snare another bit of food from the bowl
with his tongue, but Freya grabbed it between her thumb and
Index finger.

"What did I say before? Don't do that again." She told him. Jar Jar started to mumble and she let go of his tongue.
Padme couldn't help but find it amusing. Freya was so laid back and calm, but when it came to table manners, she was very harsh.
"I...I was wondering...something.." Anakin said.
"What?" Qui-Gon asked.
"Well, ahhh...you're a Jedi Knight, aren't you?" Anakin asked. Freya looked at Padme with wide eyes and she shrugged.
"What makes you think that?" Qui-Gon asked. Anakin gave him a look like 'seriously'?
"I saw your laser sword. Only Jedi carry that kind of weapon." He said in a matter of fact way.

Qui-Gon leaned back and slowly smiled. He glanced at Freya who hadn't turned away from Anakin.
"Perhaps I killed a Jedi and stole it from him." He said and Anakin shook his head.
"I don't think so... No one can kill a Jedi Knight." Anakin said. Freya sighed sadly and realized he was only still a boy.
"I wish that were so..." Qui-Gon said sadly.
"I had a dream I was a Jedi. I came back here and freed all the
slaves...have you come to free us?" Anakin asked. Freya gripped the table and felt her lip quiver. Qui-Gon noticed her discomfort and sighed.
"No, I'm afraid not..." He answered.
"I think you have...why else would you be here?" Anakin asked. Qui-Gon could tell the boy was extremely smart.
"I can see there's no fooling you..."
Qui-Gon said and leaned forward, "You mustn't let anyone know about us...we're on our way to Coruscant, the central
system in the Republic, on a very important mission, and it must be kept
secret." Anakin looked stunned and then realized that maybe Freya hadn't been an angel, but she really did look like one.
"Coruscant...wow...how did you end up here in the outer rim?" He asked. Freya answered for him, "Our ship was damaged, and we're stranded here until we can repair it."
Anakin's enthusiasm showed in his words as he said, "I can help! I can fix anything!"
Qui-Gon nodded and assured him,
"I believe you can, but our first job is to aquire the parts we
need..."
"Wit no-nutten mula to trade." Jar Jar added. Padme thought for a moment and said, "These junk dealers must have a weakness of some kind."
"Gambling. Everything here revolves around betting on those awful
races." Shmi told them. Qui-Gon sighed and shook his head.
"Podracing... Greed can be a powerful ally.. if it's used properly." Anakin jumped up.
"I've built a racer! It's the fastest ever...There's a big race
tomorrow, on Boonta Eve. You could enter my pod. It's all but finished..." Anakin told them. Shmi noticed how Anakin and the young girl next to him looked at each other.
"Anakin, settle down. Watto won't let you..." Shmi said in an attempt to calm her son down.
"Watto doesn't know I've built it."
Anakin said to her and then looked to Qui-Gon, "You could make him
think it's your's, and you could get him to let me pilot it for you."
Freya noticed that his mother was upset and she said sadly, "I don't want you to race, Annie...It's awful. I die every time Watto makes you do it."
Anakin whined and begged his mother.
"But Mom, I love it...and they need help...they're in trouble. The
prize money would more than pay for the parts they need." Anakin said to her. Jar Jar added at a very bad time, "Wesa ina
pitty bad goo."
Freya slapped his arm and he gave her a bad look to which she returned.
"Your mother's right. Is there anyone friendly to the Republic who
might be able to help us?" Qui-Gon asked Shmi. She shook her head no.
"We have to help them, Mom...you said that the biggest problem in
the universe is no one helps each other..." Anakin pleaded.
"Anakin, don't..." Shmi sighed.
Jar Jar burped and Freya gave him a very dirty look. There was a silence for a moment as they are and Freya rubbed her forehead while Padme chuckled.

"I'm sure Qui-Gon doesn't want to put your son in danger. We will
find another way..." Padme assured Shmi who disagreed.
"No, Annie's right, there is no other way... I may not like it, but
he can help you...he was meant to help you." Shmi stated and turned away. Anakin yelled out, "Is that a yes? That is a yes!"

While the storm raged outside, Anakin and Freya sat on a bench inside. He was showing her his things and she grabbed a hair pin from her hair. It contained a small little ruby. She handed it to Anakin.
"For good luck tomorrow." She said shyly and handed him the pin.
He took it and looked at her hand.
"I-I feel a connection to you." He said and she nodded and grabbed his hand.
"I feel the same." She replied. His hand touched her long hair. He had never seen white hair. It was very beautiful.
"Your hair is so different." Anakin's fingers laced on one of the curls.
"It is, isn't it?" She joked.
"It's beautiful." He made her blush.
"How..how old are you?" He asked. She chuckled.
"Thirteen." She said. His eyes widened and he looked down embarrassed.
"You don't have to be embarrassed. I find you handsome." She assured. She was only trying to make him feel better, but he was a very cute little boy.
"I'm glad." He said happily.
