"Okay let's begin. Who wants to talk about their past couple weeks" Andi asked
Everyone looked around to see who would talk first before Vinnie opened his mouth.
"These few weeks have been great for me, I've been skating almost everyday. The campus is great too. The classes are boring but whatever." He droned
God he had not idea how lucky he was to be going to one of the best school in the country. It must be great to be so blind to your privilege ugh.
"Well my classes have been great, I love Yale. It's been the greatest privilege I've ever had a chance to experience" I corrected while staring dead into his eyes.
He didn't hesitate to stare back
"Well that's fantastic Maia. I didn't know you changed so much. You never seem interested in Yale in high school" he tormented
I let him off with that one before I started to say words I would regret. Everyone continued speaking and soon it was 10:00 pm. It was time to go but I decided to order a jam croissant for the road.
The employees were super kind. I walked out to my car in the pitch black. As soon as I got in, I tried to turn on the engine but it just wouldn't start. Ugh, this was the most awful time, my house was 30 minutes away. Why why why do things have to happen to me.
I was drowning in pity when I heard a familiar knock on my window.
"I could drive you, you know"
I stepped out of the car only to be saved by Vincent. I wanted to deny as a move of power but looking at the situation I was in no position to say no.
"Yeah whatever, I've always wanted a ride in that sick car" I groaned
I stepped into his car which was surprisingly cooler on the inside than the outside. He started up the car silently, just like the next 10 minutes of the car ride. His hand brushed my thigh as he turned on the radio to break the silence. I felt myself wishing he would've kept it there. Finally he said something.
"influencers and the harm they cause, what an interesting piece. You know I was curious why the author sounded so angry until I realized it was you."
Shit. I'd forgotten about that. I let out all my anger at him in 1000 words.
"To be fair, you've been kinda a dick since we've talked"
"I guess I have, but it seems like your obsession hasn't died down either"
I was so embarrassed. He just stared over me. He knew he had power. He then put his free hand on mine. Vinnie had full control of me. I wanted him so bad, and he knew that by teasing me.
We were nearing my apartment now I told him to just let me out by my apartment office so I could get a spare key. I left the original in my car at the coffee shop. I figured I'd have to call a tow truck to pick it up. Which would take a good 3,000 dollars. As we arrived he took his hand off of mine.
"Thanks Vincent." I teased before putting my hand on the car door
"Im having a costume party at my house. Invite your geek friends. See you Friday at 10." He announced
"Oh. Okay." I spoke before leaving
A party, my first Yale party in his dorm. I couldn't go. I shouldn't go. This sounds a lot like high school.
Maybe this means we were friends. Maybe this means he'd forgotten about the party that gave me the embarrassment in the first place. Either way this could be my redemption
