chapter 3: maias pov

It had been weeks since I talked to Vinnie. He barely made eye contact with me. Which at first was hard, but then it actually helped my attachment to him. I had an anger in me. He ruined my chance at a fresh start. Treating me like he did in high school. I had no interest in talking to that miserable piece of shit.

Although, without him I managed to do a lot. I got introduced to my journalism team on the Yale papers. They were the greatest people. I made a group of friends there. Starting with Finch, the first person I was introduced to. Also the current editor of the Yale Daily News.
Finch was a "lightskin heartthrob genius" as his instagram bio read. His hair was dark brown and curly with hints of blonde throughout and he was the best friend ever. He helped me with everything I needed and we found ourselves hanging out all the time. It was nice to have a friend focused on the same things as me.

I also became friends with Finches friends, Dylan, Bri, and Haley. He was more popular than you would expect. Anyway, they were all great and I forgot about Vinnie in no time.

I had just finished my classes for today, when I decided to run into the journalism office. Right now I was still working as an intern but Finch had hooked me up with the occasional writing assignment. I headed to desk which I had now decorated with posters from my favorite bands. And my computer which had lots of hello kitty and sanrio stickers. I sat down in my black office chair and opened my email:

from: FinchMarshall@Yaledailynews.com
subject: NEW ASSIGNMENT
to: MaiaSantosbuisness@yaledailynews.com

   Hi Maia,

I got notification that the main editors are  looking for a new author for our article on the theme "influencers and the influenced" Would you be interested in writing??

Lmk, Finch

An influencer writing prompt. This only reminded me of one person of course. Mr. Hacker. I had the greatest idea. I would ruin him. The way he ruined me. Writing an article on the real way "influencers" treat people. I knew I would take the prompt.

After emailing Finch to approve his writing offer, I drove home to the apartment to get writing.

I had never been so passionate about a subject. The fire I had went right into every paragraph.
My anger led the way. I made sure not to put his name in there because otherwise I'd probably get sued by his rich parents.

Days had gone by and I was finally done with the article I titled "influencers and the harm they bring" by yours truly. I made sure to email it to Bri who would look over it before sending it to Finch.

It was now 3:01 pm and I'd spent the last 3 days using my brain power on Vinnie. It sucks that tonight was a semester recap with Andi so I'd be forced to see him. He'd probably just ignore me like usual so it wouldn't be so bad.

I decided to dress up for the recap event. It was mainly casual but I decided to wear a cute white tank I got from brandy melville last summer, A little black mesh cardigan, and a pair of Jean shorts from AE. I also wore my favorite black platform converse. I grabbed a little black purse and headed to the local coffee shop where the recap was being held.

It was so cute. Maisies Brewery. It omitted a smell of fresh pastries and iced lattes. I found my group sitting at a tan colored booth and walked over.

"Hi Maia!!" Andi exclaimed "take a seat wherever."

I caught a glance of Vinnie before sitting down next to a well dressed south Asian woman on the left side of the booth. Vinnie was sitting at one of the tables with the others members of the group.
