𝐓𝐇𝐄 day they had moved into the house across the street from the Todoroki family was the day this awful hell had begun for Itsumi Midoriya.

Seven years old with her newly developed healing and adaptation quirk with the only person in her life being her single mother Ikuko little Itsumi gazed excitedly out the window, thrilled at seeing a new city where her new life would begin.

She waved animatedly at random passerbies, unable to wait to make new friends in this new town where she would now be growing up.

Their car pulled into the driveway of a foreign house as Itsumi unlocked the door and stepped out onto the porch of her new house, unaware of the horrors this new location would bring her.

It was around 5pm in the evening when she had finally finished helping her mother unpack all the boxes and make room for their this in the house when it happened.

Assuring her mother she only wanted to explore the new quarter and would return in an hour, she stepped out of the house and onto the road as she eagerly looked around at the place.

That was when she heard it.

There seemed to be coming a rustling sound from the other side of the fence of the house in front of hers.

Not rustling, no, it was a sort of sniffling. Upon straining her ears Itsumi realised it was actually the sound of someone crying.

Taken aback but intrigued nonetheless, she tiptoed over to the fence and peeked. She gasped.

It was a boy – none older than her by the looks of it, yet he looked nothing like her. In place of her emerald green, he had fiery red hair that was messy slightly like Itsumi's, yet it was not his hair or clothing that intrigued her, it was the scars adorning his arms.

There was a lopsided bandage placed on his upper forearm - he'd evidently placed it there himself – and he was freely sobbing into his palms.

When the noise escaped Itsumi, she covered her mouth in horror as it had alerted the boy.

He immediately stopped rubbing his eyes and looked up with wide, fearful eyes that looked slightly tired, at her.

Itsumi panicked as the apologies began tumbling from her mouth all at once.

"I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to spy on you or anything – I just heard crying and I thought someone was hurt – I didn't –"

"Who are you?"

His blunt question shut her up in an instant. He was looking at her warily, as of to see if she would suddenly go on a rampage and fling him into the garden opposite the fence.

"Oh," Itsumi smiled and waved , "Hi there! My name is Itsumi Midoriya! I quite literally just moved in the house opposite this one – just this morning! I'm from –"

"Why did you... do that?" he asked quietly.

"Huh? Do what?"

"You know..." his voice dropped to a whisper, " Stand there and watch me like that..."

"What?" she yelled indignantly, "Well when you say it like that it makes me sound like a creep! Like I said, I heard crying and thought someone was hurt so I came to see if I could he-"

"But why?" he pressed, impatience creeping into his voice, "What if someone was hurt? How would it be any of your business, it's not like you can do anything about it."

"Wow, rude," Itsumi scoffed.

The boy looked confused, "How is that rude? What could you do? You're a kid!"

"So are you!" she argued, "And by the looks of it you are hurt. And I can do something about it, here , look!"

"What are you doing!?" He yelled, jerking back a little as she grabbed his arm.

"Relax silly," Itsumi rolled her eyes before closing them.

She took a deep breath and concentrated hard, frowning slightly. The boy's eyes widened ever so slightly as he watched the fresh cut on his arm fade away into nothingness.

"How did you –"

"It's my quirk!" Itsumi happily explained , "I can heal people, and myself. I can also change my bodily features in time of danger to protect myself. It's called 'Adapt'."

"Cool," he remarked in genuine surprise.

"Thanks," Itsumi grinned, "Mr. Random Guy on the Street."

"What?"

"You never told me your name," Itsumi accused.

"Oh..."

Looking at her outstretched hand he seemed to be genuinely deliberating something serious.

Finally, he took her hand with his trembling one and said to her the words that played in her head over and over like a bad movie for years and years that she couldn't get rid of.

"I'm Touya Todoroki."
