"Heh. I guess it wouldn't hurt."
Sunlight peeked through the leaves, illuminating the man sat on the grass in an ethereal light, his ebony locks poking his face, his head down low. Scarred, tanned hands holding a small bowl with nectar, a hummingbird drinking out of it using its long beak.
"You're a pretty one eh?" He whispered in an attempt to not scare the small bird away.
Oh did he have such a gentle smile, one that would make even the toughest person melt in an instant. It was no wonder that people would admire the man from afar, as they were too scared to approach him.
But he felt an ache in his chest.
One that he never was able to get rid of. It was one of loneliness. He was always one to be alone, he thought he was better off that way. Alone with the creations of nature.
However, he could never shake off the feeling of wanting a companion. Or even a romantic partner. He wanted, needed someone to rant to about what he sees everyday, what he discovers and what he makes.
Oh but yes, he's tried himself. He once went up to a handsome man, hoping he would talk to him with confidence and a genuine interest, rather than flush and leave to brag to others. The man did the exact thing he feared.
Then he tried a second time, this time with a knight he had seen wandering the woods. She wore her helmet most of the time, which allured him. He liked the mysteriousness that surrounded her, but unfortunately he never actually tried talking to her, knowing that she had a very demanding job already. She didn't need the center of attention to come bothering her as she guarded the forests. Still, he imagined what could be.
These days, he explores the dense forest that surrounds a kingdom, documenting and writing everything he witnesses.
Until one day. A crew of people had flooded the markets, asking people to join them in their ship.
Very sketchy. He would think.
But my God did the thought of it taunt him at night, as he desperately wanted to get sleep. It was everything he dreamed of. He could explore the world. Besides, how can one write about the world if one hasn't seen it? He could doze off to the sound of roaring waves, sing shanties with the crew, and maybe even be taught battle tactics.
So the next day, he confidently walked through the markets, despite the many eyes that lay upon him.
"Hello." He simply said, hoping that was enough to catch the attention of one of the men.
"Huh? Oh! Hey little guy!" The man beamed, looking down at him. He was clearly taller than everyone else.
"Well." He stared at the claw necklace the man wore. "I'm Corbin. Heard you're looking for crew members. Was wondering if I could..."
"Of course!" The man smiled. "We'll gladly take you."
He was confused. This man didn't show any signs of nervousness. Corbin got used to having to deal with the stuttering and giddiness of others when he spoke to them, and the new attitude this man was displaying was something foreign.
"Are you the captain?" He asked. His hands moved around, not knowing what to do with them. For once, he was the nervous one.
"Oh, heavens no! Our captain is somewhere around here, probably recruiting new people herself." The man said, beefy arms crossing. "She wears her hair in a long braid, you'll spot her instantly."
"Ah, alright. Thanks...?"
"Felix, nice to meet you Corbin."
He nodded, before turning around to search for the captain.
"There." He whispered, walking around a small crowd of people.
The woman seemed to instantly sense him, turning. "Oh? A new person interested?" She asked, hands on her hips.
"Oh." Corbin looked down, before looking back at her. "Yeah, I'm interested. A man named Felix told me to look for you."
"Ah, I see Felix is doing a good job at getting people interested." A soft smile formed on her face. "Well, have any talents? We need to know to see what your capabilities are."
Corbin crossed his arms, thinking. "I write. A lot, I have journals filled all about my observations of people. I'd say I can describe people really well." He held up his chin with his hand. "I suppose I can also cook, and if you need a musician, I'm also good with lots of instruments."
She hummed, pondering.
"Musician and writer I see?" She closed her eyes.
"Heh, I guess it wouldn't hurt."
