Chapter 2

I remembered hearing the doctors rush me into a room. Machines were going, trying to keep me alive. I couldn't see, I tried calling out to them but couldn't. I couldn't breathe.

"We are losing her doctor!" screamed the nurses as they tried getting me to breathe. There was no response from the doctor.

"Doctor its no use, the girl has lost to much blood. We've tried everything we can, her vital signs are weak. She is not going to live." said one of the nurses. "Looks like she'll be another victim to the violence here." she stated sadly.

"No, not yet.... I have another idea." The doctor said quickly as I heard him begin walking out of the room.

"Doctor, it is no use! She is going to die anyway! " yelled the nurse.

The doctor replied in an angered tone, "A good doctor never gives up on his patients!! Do you understand?!!! " he yelled.

The nurse was silent.

"Now keep working on her!!" he yelled.  The doctor walked out of the room. He came back a few seconds later, I heard something open.

"What is in that case?" one of the nurses asked.

"I can't tell you and you must swear to never tell what you've seen here. If you do....both our lives are on the line." he stated.

'What was in the case?? ' I thought to myself.

"y.yes. sir. " promised the nurse nervously.

I heard footsteps next to me. "I am going to inject this into her. I'm not sure what will happen, but I'm hoping it will save her." he explained.

A sense of panic went over my body. What was he injecting in me?! I wanted to run but I couldn't do anything. I sat there helpless. There was a sudden sharp pain in my left wrist as he injected something into me. I felt the liquid from the syringe travel through my body. It began to burn. There was another injection in my right arm. The burning feeling heightened. I clenched my teeth in pain. I felt as if my whole insides were on fire.

Whatever he injected in me was going through my body. The burning was extremely painful. I wanted to scream. I let out a whimper in pain.

"Uh...Doctor, I think the injections are hurting her"

"Patience, its only for a few second. but she will be fine" he stated calmly.

My eyes began burning. The areas where I had been shot began to tingle. The pain was unbearable. I would give anything to make the pain stop.

"What the.....what happened to her wounds?! They are gone!! " the nurse said in shock.

"Its the injections ....you guys can't say anything about what happened here, understand? " said the doctor.

"Why? This is a medical breakthrough!!" said one of the nurses.

"It's our lives on the line if we do!!" he said.

The nurses were quiet. I couldn't handle the pain anymore. I let out a blood curdling scream.

     "Help her!!!" one of the nurses screamed.

I felt a cool wrist hold me down.

Suddenly it was easier to breathe again. I heard my heart monitor go crazy. My heart in my chest began beating loud. "Thump! Thump! Thump! Thump!"

"What's going on?! " panicked the nurse.

"It's working like I wanted it too. She is coming back....."

I felt a cooling sensation fill my body. The burning slowing fading.

     I heard an alarm down the hall.

"Go, I can take it from here." The doctor said to the nurses.

The nurses didn't argue. I heard them walk out the door. I lay there quietly hearing my strong heart thump. I heard the door lock.

"Miss Gardner..can you hear me?"

I nodded slowly.

     "It's okay. Open your eyes." He said gently.

I hesitated. I took a deep breath. The burning feeling was almost gone. I slowly opened my eyes.
