he was wrong.
"vin? it's mama, can i come in?" maria softly knocked on the door, keeping her voice just as soft. vinnie sniffled, quickly sitting up and wiping over his face, "u-uhm, yeah, come on!"
maria opened the door, frowning when she saw the bags under his sons eyes and sitting on the bed. "vin...your father and i have been, uhm, worried about you..." she trailed off, letting her voice remain soft as she wanted to make him feel as comfortable as possible.
vinnie sighed. he was afraid that this conversation would happen.
"can you tell me what's been going on? everyone's worried about you, we know you aren't okay." maria frowned, holding his hand. "i-i..." vinnie stuttered, before busting out in tears as he didn't know how to say anything.
maria felt her heart wrench as she wrapped her arms around him, letting his body fall into her shoulder as he sobbed.
"i'm sorry, m-mama, i just don't know wh-what to do anymore," he kept sobbing, not even attempting to wipe his tears. maria sighed and kissed the top of his head, waiting until his sobs calmed down.
"you're so loved, vin...and, i think that we should take a trip to the psychiatric. it may be time to start taking antidepressants again." maria said once he calmed down, running her hand through his hair in a comforting manner.
"okay." vinnie spoke quietly in defeat, not moving from his position as he felt more warm tears fall.
he just wanted to be held, just for a moment longer.
'know she won't be gone forever,
there are many times i find it feels that way.'
vinnie let out a laugh at something funny micky had said, before taking a bite out of his sonic burger.
he was currently hanging out with micky, daniel, veondre, and nailea. they all stayed friends despite the breakup, because the two ended on "good terms", and they all still got along very well.
veondre suddenly looked at her phone as it started ringing, "oh, my bad, it's lola, i gotta take this."
vinnie immediately felt his mood drop at the mention of his former girlfriend's name, watching as veondre excused herself to the other room to answer lola's call.
micky noticed his change in mood and frowned, "hey...you okay?"
"oh, uhm, yeah." vinnie shrugged, taking another bite of his burger. "y'know...it's okay if you're not over her." nailea said, taking a sip of her soda.
"yeah, for sure. we won't say anything." daniel nodded in agreement, although he knew they would most definitely discuss it with lola later on.
"it's fine, i'm fine, she's fine. she's gone now, anyway, and i doubt i'll ever see her in person again." vinnie shrugged again, dismissing the situation as he obviously didn't wanna talk about it.
the rest of the group dropped the topic, not wanting to push him, as veondre returned from her call with lola.
'and i'm not trying to forget her,
just understand how i'll be feeling on that day.'
"baby, i'm boredddd. we should go to the movies!" breanna said, slightly pulling on his arm as she sat up. "yeah, sure," vinnie sighed slightly, getting off his bed and grabbing his car keys.
vinnie started dating breanna in attempts of getting over lola. he knew it was wrong of him to use breanna like that, but what other choice did he have? this was his last resort.
it wasn't the same, at all. lola was so much more laid back, and didn't mind having a little space. breanna was insanely clingy. like the, always talking and filming tiktoks together type of clingy, not the just being in each others presence type of clingy. breanna was just too much for vinnie, and that's saying alot, because vinnie was an insanely clingy person.
not every girl was going to be as good as lola, and he just had to realize that. he had to settle.
vinnie got into the car with his girlfriend, letting her turn on the radio.
he started driving, nearly slamming on the breaks when the song playing on kiss FM was lost by frank ocean.
he didn't sing. he didn't dance. all he did was was keep driving, imagining that it was lola in the passenger seat istead of breanna.
'it's just like seeing her
for the first time
again.'
"god, i hate parties," vinnie mumbled under his breath as he poured another drink. he used to have a real love for partying, but that left along with lola.
he sighed and chugged the drink, before he felt breanna tugging on his arm, "cmonnn, let's go dance!"
vinnie let her drag him to the floor, dancing with her half-heartedly as the music boomed from the speakers.
vinnie suddenly felt ten times more sober when he heard a familier laugh come from the door way. 'i know that laugh. i'd know it anywhere.' vinnie thought as he turned his attention to the door, not stopping his movement on the dance floor.
he saw her. the dress that fitted her figure so goddamn well, the melanin skin that he swore was glowing, the honey-brown hair that went down her back, and the smile that highlighted all her features.
he saw her.
he saw his lola bug.
she's back.
