♡CHAPTER 14 || ABUELO SABE♡

Start from the beginning

Eventually, the oldest man had come back down after doing whatever it is he did upstairs before quietly taking his place.

They all said their prayera together before digging in, silence hanging over the atmosphere, the only noise being made is the soumd of utensils clinking against each other.

Cutting up the pieces of meat on Nicolas' plate, (Y/n) perked up when her Mama had cleared her throat.

"So..." She started gaining the attention of the Familia. "(Y/n) made a friend." She gestured as the mentioned girl flushed in embaressment.

Francesco dropped his spoon making an overly loud noise echo before he turned to her in shock. "What!? Who?"

(Y/n)s face contorted nervously as the multiple pairs of eyes were trained on her figure shuffling about.

"Francesco asked you a question so answer it." Her Abuelos voice demanded sharply, face turned into a frown in dissappointment

The girl flinched, her back straightening automatically at the stoic voice of her Abuelo. "Right! I-- Um, It's Javier Martinez."

Francesco furrowed his brows at her, eyes staring at her in confusion. "Javier? Why would you befriend Javier?"

"He was the one that befriended me." At that Francesco just looked more confused than before, making eye contact with his older brother Mateo in front of her.

"Are we talking about the same one?" Mateo piped up, brown eyes sliding from Francesco and then to the only female grandkid.

She nodded silently, grabbing onto her glass of water and taking an anxious sip.

"Huh..." Francesco let out, his fingers moving to grab a hold on his spoon once more before taking a big bite and causing his cheeks to puff up the slightest bit.

Mikaela frowned, eyes set straight on his hermanito. "Is there something that you're not telling us?" He asked and then eyed Mateo suspiciously beside him, who raised his hands up defensively.

"Ay! He's not my amigo so don't look at me." Mateo said, averting eye contact though (Y/n) could tell that he was trying hard not to just up and run less he wanted to get another scolding from his very intamidating and very much present Mama besides Luis.

"Francesco." Luis spoke up this time and causing the younger male to pause abruptly from his dinner.

"What?" He muttered through a mouthful causing Luis to tilt his head at him and then giving the female a quick glance.

Chewing confusedly, he turned to his side and found his older Prima looking at him expectantly, eyes wide as she waited for an answer.

Francesco widened his own eyes, swallowing then gulping his own glass of water because he was stupid and he swallowed too quickly which caused his throat to burn.

(Y/n) acted quickly, handing her primo a napkin to wipe away the water that dripped down his chin.

Francesco coughed once before to her and giving her a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, Cuz, I was just surprised because I've always thought that Javier would be the last one to actually try to befriend someone." He told her, wiping away at his chin.

(Y/n) nodded back, relief flooding her chest as her former worry subsided though panic filled her being once more when her Abuelo called out to her this time.

Shocked, she turnes her attention to the very head of the table. "Sí?"

Abuelo swallowed, placing his utencils down to focus his attention on his only granddaughter. "Since the topic is already on you, I figured it would be best to mention that bouquet of flowers that you so carelessly handled yesterday."

All of the grandchildren paused in their meals, making ackward eye contact with each other as they avoided the burning stare of their Abuelo.

"I heard that it came from that baker boy, yes?" He asked pointedly and earning a nod of confirmation from the female.

"Señor Sanchez's son gave you flowers?" (Y/n)s father questioned confusedly. "Why am I only hearing about this now?" His face scrunched into a frown.

"Now, now, Diego, we're currently discussing your daughters disrespectful behavoir so I suggest you shut your mouth." Abuelo called out.

Her father tried to argue but the stern look he recieved caused him to back down.

Her eyes widened, nerves skyrocketing as the possibility of being thrown back in the basement came to her. She hasn't been there since she was nine and she certainly did not want or plan on going back.

Abuelo turned back to her, eyes displaying that dissapointment meant solely for her as she tensed. "Seeing as how you treated that bouquet so poorly, the least you can do to redeem yourself is to submit yourself to him if he were to ever court you. I heard that he's been planning to for a while n--"

"Abuelo, that's not fair!" Francesco interupted loudly as the female next to him stayed quiet as her thoughts drifted to Camilo, worried about the situation she found herself in and how she was to tell her Novio as Nicolas tugged on her wrist insistantly. "She wasn't the one to ruin that stupid bouquet, I did!"

"Oh? Now why would you do that?"

"Because it's not fair to (Y/n)! That Lorenzo bastard hated her for who knows how long and all of a sudden he thinks that a single bouquet will make up for it?!" Francesco argued back. "I won't allow him to hurt her more than he already has!"

"That's not exactly your desicion to make Francesco." Abuelo finalized, brows furrowed as he dared the younger male to argue back.

"Well neither is it yours, Abuelo." Luis finally spoke up causing the old man to stare at him in shock.

"Excuse me?"

"She's not some object that you can just toss to whoever is going to benifit you the most because of your own selfish reasons. She's my hermananita and she gets to make her own desicions." Luis then stood up causing both of his Papa and Tio to defend their Father in case Luis did something reckless but the eldest grandchild merely walked over to his primo Francesco.

"'Cesco, why don't you take (Y/n) and Nico up stairs. They don't need to hear the bullshit our Abuelo keeps spouting." He gave him a reassuring smile despite the words he let out.

Blinking rapidly, Francesco stared at his oldest primo and then making eye contact with his hermano who nodded at him to comply. "Ok."

Luis gave him another smile and a hair ruffle before moving to his younger siblings, giving both an affecrionate kiss on the head though he frowned when he noticed his hermana spacing out.

"(Y/n)." Luis shook her shoulder and officially grabbing her attention as she turned to him with her eyes wide.

"Go upstairs for a bit."

Dazed, she nodded before standing up and carrying Nicolas along with her, Francesco moving to stand up before Luis gestured for Mateo to also come along. "You too, Mat."

"Leave this to me and Mika, alright?"

Mateo complied, standing up before hurrying after his hermano and primos, sending one last look to his older hermano in reassurance.

Mikaela nodded back, an uncharacteristicly soft smile on his face as he waved them off with Luis next to him.

Their Abuelo sighed loudly as he tapped his foot impatiently. "... Not this again."
