Charlie was still sleeping, so she took this opportunity to look around the room for a way out and something she could use a weapon if needed.

Getting up slowly, still dizzy from her head injury, she made her way over to the wooden door

Locked.

That much she guessed. Trying to peak through the small slits in the wood, they were in a church.

Hearing footsteps approaching, she panicked. Looking around the room, there was nothing she could use to protect them.

The steps got closer and soon the lock was being turned. Bella's first instinct was to protect Charlie. Moving to stand in front of him, so whoever was about to enter couldn't get to him.

The door opened and Bella couldn't breathe.

Father Hughes.

He had a tray of bread, smirking when he saw her up and awake.

"Ahh Ms. Ray, it's good to see you awake. I brought you both some breakfast."

Bella didn't move, she couldn't, she stayed firmly planted where she was, glaring at him.

"No thank you? Heard you're a rebel of a woman. Perhaps I should take you to confession?"

Hearing him say that made something boil up inside of her, so with whatever courage she found,

She spit in his face.

Frowning in disgust as the mucus hit his eye. He slowly put the tray down, wiping it off his face.

Then before Bella could even flinch, he back handed her.
Causing her to stumble and land back on the mattress next to Charlie. Who woke up at the commotion.

He didn't cry though, his little eyes just kept looking back and forth between them.

Bella glared back up at him. Hughes bent down to pick up Charlie, but before he could touch him, she grabbed his wrists throwing them away with force.

"Dont Fuckin' touch him." She demanded Not sure where all this courage came from, maybe the adrenaline from the situation or maybe just her need to keep the baby safe.

Hughes turned towards her, she must have a death wish he thought. Getting into her face, pointing his finger at her
"You better hope that man of yours listens to my directions this time, otherwise you'll never see him or the boy again, I promise you that."

"Fuck you." She snarled back

The smirk made its way back onto his face, knowing he got under her skin. Padding her cheek he stood up straight, making his way back towards the door.
"You have a nice day now, Bella."

As soon as the lock turned, she couldn't hold it in any longer.

She sobbed.
She couldn't believe she was in this situation. This is what she wanted to avoid by running away all those years ago. Now she's right back in his grasp....She wanted her brother. He was always there to comfort her and help her through this, now she just felt alone.

Alone and hurt. She knew her face didn't look good. Based on the throbbing, from the gun hit and the back hand, she was going to be bruised badly.

With her head in her hands, she felt a little tug on her dress...

"B-b-bell" Charlie's little wary voice broke through her tears.

Turning to look at him, he seemed lost. Too young to understand the depth of what happened, but smart enough to understand that Bella was upset.
And Charlie hated seeing Bella upset.
