The atmosphere around her was stuffy and hot. She opened a heavy eyelid and scanned her surroundings. Everything was normal until she saw the window. The beautiful view that she normally woke up to was gone. She couldn't believe it, all these years, and never, not once, had she been targeted. They weren't supposed to know she was here. They weren't even supposed to knows she was alive.
And yet here she was again. It was aimed hat her this time, not a mistake. She couldn't understand how they could know. As the smoke began to fill her home she struggled to breathe. Every breath became and unbearable challenge for her. Her eyes stung as they began to water. No. They had taken everything from her and now they were taking her treehouse, her home. It was truly going this time. She was losing the place she called home.
As the flames closed in, she knew she knew she couldn't save it. Her mind flashed to all the memories she had on the treehouse. From building it for refuge after faking her own death to all of the nights that it had sheltered her. Tonight, being the last. She had let herself believe that the world was a better place now, but they always proved her wrong. Always crushed every bit of optimism and hope she had left. She didn't know how to fight back. How to keep going. She had nothing left. This was the end. She was over. They had won.
She couldn't fight any more. There was no energy left in her body. She struggled to move even the smallest of muscles. Their shadows glowed in light of the unusually bright moon. She could here their laughter. Loud and dangerous. They knew. They'd figured it out. They knew that she was here. They probably always had. Waiting for the perfect time to strike. That time was now. This was her end.......
They had won at last. The worse part was they knew it. And that is what she thought about as she struggled to breathe through hacking coughs. She thought about how many people would die without her, as well as how much trouble the world was in. It was doomed. Everything was doomed as long as he still breathed. She was dying, and he was stronger than ever.
