Chapter Seventeen, Black Opaline Eyes

"Thanks..." he murmured happily.

I sat down beside him as he began eating, my eyes staring out the door. I couldn't help but think about him. He was just so... strange. I couldn't help but think of how his eyes sparkled like gemstones in the sunlight or how his voice reminded me of a rainstorm. He reminded me of the snow in some ways, how cold he could be, and how beautiful he could be all at once. I couldn't help but smile, thoughts of him still fluttering through my brain.

I was driven back to reality, Cubic shaking me gently. I turned to face him, a confused look in his eyes.

"Hey Y/N?" He looked away, "Can I ask you something?"

"W-What is it?" I stared, curious to know.

"Why do you have that scar on your back?" He tilted his head, "I've seen it a couple times, and I've wanted to know."

"O-Oh, that old thing? It's a long story..." I looked away, hoping he'd drop it.

He looked away from me, "I-I'm sorry if talking about it bothers you..." he glanced back at me, "I was just curious. It doesn't look like a normal scar-" he pressed on.

I couldn't help but sigh, "It just is something I don't usually like talking about," I looked at him again "Anyways, how are your wounds doing?" I changed the subject.

He froze, "Oh, they're doing fine..." he looked away "they're almost fully healed now." He smiled.

"That's so good!" I smiled, happiness filling me.

His face tinted a deeper pink as he looked away. His eyes glistened in the light. I froze, quickly opening my phone.

10:45.

Oh no.

I quickly glanced at Cubic, "I-I have to go. My boss will be upset if I'm late again." I stuttered out, "I-I'll be back!"

"Oh... okay..." Cubic looked away, a slightly saddened look in his eyes.

I waved quickly, exiting the small shed.

——————————

Cubic sat there in the shed, now alone. He couldn't help but worry, the threat of the strange corrupt still looming over him.

It had never left, no matter how much he tried.

He stood up, going up to the window. He had to wait for them, although he couldn't be more impatient. Cubic froze, his view quickly turning up to the rafters above him. A strange creaking sound echoed through the empty shed, dust falling from them. He looked around, his eyes darting between the rafters. He stopped himself, not finding anything. His attention turned away again.

He stood, facing the window. His eyes focused on the falling snow, all of it piling up. He watched the trail Y/N went down, worry still in his heart. He sighed, looking up at the clouds. The snow fell, slowly gaining speed. He felt the chill through the window, causing him to retract from it, however not looking away. It was all so peaceful.

He almost didn't see the new reflection standing behind him.

Cubic felt himself get thrown to the ground, crashing down with a large thud. He turned, his attention now focused on the corrupt standing there, a blank look on their face.

"Who-Who the hell are you!?" He shouted, fear in his voice.

The corrupt didn't respond, only getting close enough to take a step on his chest, pinning him to the ground.

They bent down, getting face to face with the small corrupt. He stared at their blank face, fear in his own.

His eyes darted, trying to recognize the figure.

"W-What the hell do you want from me?" His voice shuttered.

The corrupt didn't respond, gently grabbing his face with their hand, holding it upright to meet their own.

Then, that's when the pain struck.

Cubic froze, the pain in his side becoming more noticeable. He tried summoning his weapons, but it didn't work. Nothing worked. He felt his body go limp, the world feeling hazy.

The strange corrupt pulled the syringe from his side, causing him to fall to the ground.

The world felt like it was floating away from him, and he couldn't do anything about it.

The corrupt smiled, laughing slightly. Their voice sounded like honey to him in his remaining moments of consciousness.

His eyes glanced up to theirs. Their black, opaline eyes stared through his soul, burning a hole through him.

As his mind drifted off, he couldn't help but wonder why he kept recalling that night. The night the strange corrupt stalked the area. Then, it hit him,

It was them.
