Dilapidated ruins of an once immense society were all that was left in the end. The place I grew up which was filled with memories, both good and bad, had become almost unrecognizable to me except for the forest that lay on the outskirts that still seemed to be filled with monsters hiding within the dark.

I turned my head back straight, looking at hundreds of people that I once deemed to be friends and family. Their faces were washed over with many different emotions; some's expressions seemed blank, others looked disappointed, but the most memorable were those who seemed to grin at my pain. I winced slightly and my hands were forced down by my sides. I was in no position to struggle, and, as a matter of fact, I had no will to. I was held on this decaying wooden board that lay slightly elevated from the ground for a few minutes, then a small man with a plump stomach approached me.

His clothes were a deep red accentuated by intricate gold designs on the edges. The buttons of his jacket seemed to be ready to break under all the pressure built up from his extreme obesity. When he was compared to the audience, it was clear he was of "high class," but I could observe that based solely on his prideful demeanor.

"Adrienne has been charged of terrorism in the land of Aurora. She has worked together with rebel forces to cause the mass destruction that has spread in our country, therefore she has been sentenced to death by guillotine!"

I turned my head again, but this time it was towards the large make-shift stands that had a front-row view of my inevitable death. There, dressed in extravagant attire, was my entire family. They all sat closely, like a couple watching a play, holding hands. My older brothers sat closest to my newest step-mother and had their hands up as if they were preparing to cover her eyes from the mess that was about to occur. My brothers stared back at me for a moment and I shot them a confused and eager glance that begged them to help me out, but they quickly turned their faces away disgustedly.

My heart dropped. Was I wrong to assume that they would have come to save me? After all these years, after everything I had sacrificed for them or done. No, I should have known they would have not saved me, they never truly accepted me as their sister seeing as I was adopted as a replacement from the slums.

Worse of all was my father. He sat with his back towards me, discussing politics or something other with the other nobles that had came to view my murder today. He was dressed in his favorite suit that he only brought out during my brothers coming of age ceremonies and his first wedding. His long silver hair stood out in the snow-white suit that was so deeply contrasting from the ash and dust left over from the fire, like he had never been touched.

Suddenly, the crowd cheered brightly as a large man placed a bucket directly under my head, to catch it. The bucket was stained a deep reddish brown from the blood of these before me. This action seemed to make the crowd even more eager. It was as if I was some villain, but I wasn't. I had not worked with rebel forces or tried to burn down the land in which I was raised in. Someone must have tried to frame me, but who?

I couldn't think anymore over the large cheering, but it abruptly stopped as I felt a sharp object hit the nape of my neck. The heat from my body was sucked out by the metal and I could feel my conscious fade as the blade dug deeper and deeper down. I took one final gasp, but the air escaped me and my eyes when black.

——

I gasped one more time, and my eyes opened. I stared at the pink and white crown ceiling that had scenes from some old play inscribed in them. My sheets fell on the ground as I jumped out of the large bed and ran towards the mirror. There I was, to no surprise, but the shocking part was that I seemed ten years younger.
