She was released only a while later, a while being just a couple of days. She had managed to get scar burns along the same side of her body as the previous scar was, big, ugly scars engulfing almost a third of her body, but that was the least of her worries. She was forced to walk upon the streets, homeless and waiting for a call from child services, provided that she was still a minor.
The thing is, she didn't want a new family, nor did a family want her, especially in the town. Surprisingly, she had taken a fear to the light, for that had been the last thing she had seen her family becoming engulfed in.
She was afraid of the light. Darkness had become her friend. She flinched at the light that held memories, and fell towards the darkness where she had friends.
She lurked in the shadows of the allies and of the people, she lurked in the shadows of herself. She hadn't known what to do anymore, not with her new hair, chopped above her shoulders, not with her new life, not with anything. She repeatedly escaped from her foster home, wandering aimlessly around the streets and wondering why, how her life had fallen so harshly.
She didn't care about the burns that crawled up her neck and down her chest, she had not a care about the pain in her wounds because she suffered a pain in her heart.
School, oh she hadn't attended school ever since the fire t her house. She hadn't even thought of it, but neither have the other kids in the town. The thunderstorms that occurred between that point in time had been so severe that school was cancelled for them in all. The Lightning would strike looks of fear onto the townspeople's faces, strike worry and fear deep into their souls.
Emmy walked towards the bus station, the same one she ha planned to use to escape, the one she should've used to escape when she had the chance. She sat under the bus station to keep dry, accompanied by a man in a dark hoodie. The girl's stomach growled, her had instinctively lay flat over the cold skin beneath her t-shirt as if it were going to help it stop.
"Why don't you come over?" the man said, his voice distantly familiar to her.
"Excuse me?" she asks, her head tilting upwards in his direction.
"Why don't you come to my house, I could get you something to eat, a place to sleep maybe." his shoulders move up and down as if to shrug, the headlights of the bus catching the attention of the man, his blonde hair coming to sight. "Might even be able to sneak a few piano lessons in as well." he continues once he turns his head back to the girl, his face finally coming into her line of sight. Her lips sort of curved upwards into a smile when she recognized those deep blue eyes.
"Well, I think I'd like that." she said, and the whole town noticed the rain become lighter when her heart beat faster. She smiled at him, but his eyes were red. He looked like he hadn't slept, a sense of dyspathy in his eyes as he offered her her necessities. She stood from the bench, her hands shaking from the cold of the rain.
When the bus arrived with a squealing stop, the couple stepped aboard in silence. The lanky boy took a seat near the back and Emmy didn't hesitate to follow him. Once they became comfortable and the bus took route, Luke spoke.
"You cut your hair." she almost breathes a sigh of relief, not wanting him to take notice of the burns upon her skin.

"Yeah," she mumbles. "I kinda had to." she says, but Luke only picked at his fingernails until they blead some more.

"I liked it long." was all he said for the rest of the ride as Emmy's emotions were a stirred pot. Her heart painfully raced in her chest from not getting the wanted approval from the boy, and her stomach turned with an unknown guilt as her foot tapped with a sudden anxiousness. What else had she done to upset him? Did she say something perhaps? She was so lost in her own thoughts that she barely realized she jumped at the large hand wrapping itself around her knee to cease it's movements. Luke looked her in the eye for the first time since they had been reunited, but the look was cold and sent shivers up her spine.

The rest of the ride was basically silent, neither of the two spoke a word until after they had rushed out of the bus and in the door of the boy's house.

"Luke--" Emmy spoke once the front door had clicked closed.

"Dont, Emmy. Not now." he mumbles, unzipping the hoodie and throwing it aside, revealing that his baby blue shirt had also become wet.

"Then when, Luke?" she sighs, her hair becoming frizzy and poofy from the rain wetting it down again.

"Most likely never." he mumbles, walking towards the piano room again.

"Luke, I'm sorry--"

"Well, maybe this time 'I'm sorry' wont cut it." he suddenly snaps, the girl becoming confused because surely she had only apologized to him once. "I'm sorry won't magically fix everything, you know. It won't fix world peace or world hunger and it sure as hell won't fix this. You ran away, Emmy." he says after a short pause. "You ran away, and I--I didn't know what happened to you--fuck." he curses, pausing his stride and closing his eyes to stop tears from rolling down his cheeks.

"I'm fine--"

"No, Emmy, you're not. Did you think I didn't notice the burns all over half of your body!?" he snapped, then stopped to take a deep breath in attempt to calm himself. "I don't want to get attached to you but I already feel myself becoming so--"

"I'll always be here for you, Luke. I'll never leave again." she promises, but he shakes his head.

"Don't make promises you can't keep Emmy, you're the only one I have left and I can't-- I can't lose you." the girl's eyes soften as he speaks, her heart breaking for the broken boy in front of her.

"I won't break this promise if I can help it, Luke. I'll be here always." she says softly. Luke looks up suddenly, his eyes a bright blue from the tears threatening to spill. Before he can help himself, his hands are wrapped securely around the girl's small frame, and before they realize what's happening, their lips are placed around one another's.
