aurora feels guilty. it's completely and utterly out of her character but she still does.
she feels guilty when matt stays in his phone the entire time in the auditorium. she feels guilty when during the study hall period they all figured out they had together, he sits at one of the tables with one of his random school friends instead of the bookshelf in the back of the room they usually hide at. she feels guilty every time he sends a glare in her direction.
she's not sure why she feels so guilty during this argument when all the other ones usually never get to her. it might be because she feels to be the one to blame. she didn't know him not accepting her offer would make him so mad.
when she catches his eye in their business class, she furrows her eyebrows at him. he blinks once before looking away and back at the teacher. she frowns and begins tapping her pencil against her desk. this is starting to really bother her and she's not sure why.
the school day passes by as slow as ever, aurora's mood only souring more and more as the hours go by. when the last bell rings, she texts cameron and he says he's already parked outside.
she takes a different route than yesterday on her way to her locker so she won't pass by matt. she quickly grabs her stuff and begins on her way to the parking lot.
when she gets outside, she spots his car in the second row on the left side. she sighs, pausing for a while to wait for a couple cars to pass as they're trying to make it out of the parking lot.
"you're not riding with us?"
aurora turns around, now noticing venus and raven behind her. "oh uh, no," she answers, giving a half-smile. "i'm riding with cameron again."
raven immediately grins, ecstatic for the girl while venus narrows her eyes, noticing how she's not as excited as she should be.
raven goes to enthuse about aurora getting to ride with her crush but her girlfriend speaks first. "are you alright?" she asks.
"uh yeah?" aurora immediately answers, using a questioning tone like it should be obvious.
venus just narrows her eyes, seeing right through her. raven begins to grow suspicious as well.
aurora sighs and gives in, "somethings ups with matt and it's bothering me."
raven and venus both simultaneously raise their eyebrows, sharing a look before looking back at her. "it's... bothering you?" raven questions as if the mere thought is the most confusing thing she's ever heard.
"yes, it's bothering me," she repeats, rolling her eyes as she grows more annoyed the longer she has to talk about it.
"matt's moods have never bothered you before though?" raven brings up, squinting her eyes suspiciously at her best friend.
"well, it's bothering me now, okay!" she exclaims, growing louder as she's frustrated to admit that something matt does is getting under her skin. their eyes widen from her slight outburst so she gives a tight lipped smile and clears her throat. "sorry."
"it's um, fine..." venus says but auroras not paying attention anymore.
she notices nick, matt, and chris in the corner of her eye walking through the school doors. her eyes subconsciously focus on matt and as soon as he spots the girl looking at him, she looks back down to her friends in front of her.
"okay, i'm gonna go now," she tells them. once they share their goodbyes, she turns around and waits for a car to pass in front of her. when it's clear for a moment, she begins walking across the area to cameron's car.
when she reaches the car, she opens the passenger door and climbs into the seat. she grins at cameron, one smaller than usual but it's definitely still there. "thanks for picking me up."
"of course," he responds, shooting her a grin as well.
as they begin to pull out of his parking spot, aurora catches matt's eye again as he walks to his car with the group. she sees him visibly scoff and adverts her eyes.
