Scarlett

"Happy 13th birthday Scarlett, make a wish".

Just as I was about to wish for a brand-new phone that I have been wanting since it's been advertised on TV, my stupid alarm clock went off and I was brought back to reality... ugh! Time to get up, I guess. Usually I'm not a morning person but today I was so excited... As if! I don't think I'll ever be excited to get up in the morning.

Today it was my first day as a senior, I have waited for this day my whole life, not because you are treated better but because it meant that its finally my last year in the shit hole, I call school. anyone else agree?

"Scarlett honey, have you woken up yet?" My dad shouted.

"Yeah, I'm awake!" I screamed back before finally deciding to get out of bed.

I walked towards my wardrobe and started rooting through my clothes. Why is it so hard to pick clothes out? Sometimes I wish we were given a uniform just so there was no struggle of finding clothes so early in the morning.

Finally deciding on some black jeans and a white top that had the words j'adore across it, I walked down the stairs and headed straight for the kitchen.

As I entered the kitchen, I looked at my dad who was cooking pancakes. He had this look on his face that made me know he had to tell me something important. For the life of me and all that is good in this world, I hope it is good news otherwise I won't know how to cope with life if something bad was to happen to my dad.

I walked towards the seats and sat down in front of a huge stack of pancakes. I drizzled some syrup on top and began eating.

"Good morning dad, how are you feeling today?" I asked in between bites

"Good morning Scarlett, I'm fine, just got a little bit of a headache but it should go away soon hopefully". He said focusing on the pancakes. "Are you excited to go back to school?" He asked as he set the pancake on another plate for himself, still not looking at me. What is he hiding from me?

"Of course," I lied straight through my teeth

After setting the last pancake on the stack, my dad finally looked up and gasped

"What?" I asked confused

"You're a spitting image of your mum, you look really beautiful today". I smiled at the comment. My dad hardly spoke about mum but when he did, it was always when he would praise the way I looked.

"Thanks dad," I said grabbing my bag

The school bus was about to arrive soon, I walked towards the door when dad called me back. I guess it's the important news. Please be good news, please be good news, I kept chanting in my head.

"Make sure you come home early, we have some guests coming over today," he muttered so low it was almost impossible to understand what he said.

"Wait, that's what you were afraid to tell me? Dad I'm not going to be...

"Scarlett that's not the news, you'll find out what it is later on the day," he interrupted.

Oh, well that explained why he muttered it. I was beginning to get worried now, creating the worst-case scenarios in my head. I looked up at my dad to see his worried face, so I put on a smile and kissed my dad's cheek.

"Okay dad, I'll make sure I'm home early. Bye, I love you".

Meanwhile

Ryder

"Wake up Ryder!!!! you're going to be late for school!!!" my mum screamed

Urgh! I don't see the point in going to school, it's a waste of my time

"Ryder! I am not going to tell you again, wake up!" my mum yelled even louder.

I went back to bed for another hour. I have a reputation to hold and that means making an entrance on the first day of school.

I finally got up and strolled towards the kitchen where my three year old little sister sat on the floor playing with her playdough.

"Ami" I whispered into my little sister's ear to gran her attention

"Ry ry" she said bringing her arms up for me to pick her up. I shook my head telling her I can't.

She pouted at me but when I told her I have something for her, her eyes lit up.

"What is it ?" She asked cutely

"Only your favourite chocolate ever"  I said pulling the bar of chocolate out my pocket.

My mum walked into the room.

"I see someone finally got out of bed, oh well better late than never" my mum said disappointedly

"Yeah yeah whatever"

I went to put some cereal in, sat down and put the sports channel on.

"Ryder you're getting late for school and you haven't even got changed yet"

"Mum chill out, it's not like I have an exam today"

"Ry ry, chocolate?" Ami asked looking up from her play dough

"Not now Ami, I'm going to give it to mum and she will give it to you after you've had your food... okay?" She nodded her head and went back to playing.

I went upstairs and got changed for school. Riiinnngg, riiinnngg

"Ryder speaking"

"Hey babe, can you pick me up? my car broke down"

"Sure jasmine," I sighed, great! Another stupid errand I have to do "I'll pick you up. I'll be there in 5 minutes"

I rushed down the stairs and before I got out of the house my mum stopped me. Now what? I thought.

"Any reason you stopped me from walking out the house?" I said angrily. First she tells me to leave the house because I'm getting late for school, and know she is stopping me! I will never understand women. someone should become a women whisperer, you know like a dog whisperer but for females.

"Actually yes, make sure you come home early we are meeting an old friend"

Not wanting to hear a lecture, I agreed straightaway and left immediately to pick jasmine up.
