Author's note: Hope you are liking the story so far! I would like to clarify that I know nothing about figure skating so some of the stuff I am saying could be incorrect and if so, my apologies!

"Morning." I say as I make my way downstairs. As I enter the kitchen, I smell the fresh smell of eggs and bacon. My hair is in a messy bun and I'm wearing a hoodie with jeans. It's cold here in Michigan so hoodies are my go to's. I think I have enough hoodies alone to fill a whole store.

"You have figure skating today after school right?" My mom asks. I've been doing figure skating ever since I was little and my family and I take it very seriously. I don't plan on going professional or anything, I just do it for fun.

"Yeah." I reply.

Once I arrive at school, I go to my locker to get my books for first period, aka english.

"Boo." A familiar voice says as I feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn around to see it's my friend Katie. Katie is one of my closest friends along with Leo and Aaron. I met her my sophomore year through the environmental club.

"Hey Katie." I say as I shut my locker.

"Did I scare you?" She asks.

"Yes, you utterly terrified me." I reply sarcastically.

"Good. Anyways, are you ready for english?"

"Yes, I wonder what treats Mrs. Bardu will have for us today." English is by far my favorite subject. I am not super smart, I guess you could say I'm average but I am amazing at english. I'm even thinking of majoring in creative writing or something like that. It helps that our teacher is a literal queen. She gives us different candy every class.

"How was picking up Aaron and Leo from the airport?" She asks.

"Good, I hate that they have to travel so much." I sigh.

"I know. Especially Aaron." Katie says, wiggling her eyebrows. Katie is the only person who knows about my crush on Aaron and I plan to keep it that way. I didn't even tell her, she just figured it out.

"Okay class, don't forget to read to page 230 in our book by next class." Mrs. Bardu announces as everyone packs up for the next period.

"Ella, may I speak with you." Mrs. Bardu asks.

"Yes." I respond as I come up to her desk.

"There is an essay contest going on in our area. I was asked to choose one student from my class who I think has a chance of winning it and I am choosing you. You are an excellent student as well as an excellent writer. You in?" She asks.

"Of course I am. What's the topic I'm writing about?" I ask in an excited tone.

"An invention that you wish was never invented and why. It has to be exactly a page long. If you have any other questions please come and ask me." Mrs. Bardu states.

"I will! Thank you so much for choosing me." I say as I head out the classroom and rush to my next class.

"Guess what exciting news I was told today." I say as I take a seat in the cafeteria.

"What." Leo says, taking a bit of his apple.

"I was chosen to be a part of an essay contest coming up."

"That's amazing. I could never." Leo replies. Leo isn't exactly the smartest when it comes to school. But I think that's because he doesn't actually put any effort into his schoolwork. It's all on hockey.

"Where's Aaron?" I ask, looking around.

"Probably off making out with some girl." Leo replies. My heart feels like it crumbles a little at that comment. He probably is. Aaron is known to get with a lot of girls. They come to him and he just goes along with it. I'm pretty sure his longest relationship has been about a month. However, that is not the case for me. I had my first boyfriend my freshman year, Zach Cablo. We both kind of lost feelings and broke up mutually. I wouldn't call him my first love because I haven't experienced a first love yet. Still waiting on the day.... Zach was my first and only kiss. Unless you count when Aaron kissed me on the play structure when we were in third grade.
