She was young. She was a beautiful 18 year old, bright blue eyes, perfect blonde flowing hair and a tan complexion. Every guy fell head over heels for her, except one boy caught her eyes. His long dark hair covered his face and hid his personality. She wanted to help him. That day at school she went to him, he was sitting alone lost in a book. He had no friends but everyone hated him. She sat next to him and noticed that he was reading her favorite book, “The Adventures of Clark,” a war book. He looked to her in shock that the most beautiful person in the school was sitting next to him. She smiled with her perfect straight teeth. He snapped his head back. She says; “Good book isn't it? Thats one of my favorite books.” The boy nods. “My names....”

“Mackenzie, yeah I know your name, everyone does, your the most popular girl in school...” Mackenzie smiles. “...But why would someone like you be talking to someone like me, I’m a nobody. I have no friends, obviously, and you have well most of the school.”

“I’m talking to you because I can see that you need a friend.” She notices his wrists. “Let me see your wrists.” He covers them with his sweatshirt. “Its okay I wont tell anyone.” He shows her and Mackenzie frowns and tears start to pile in her eyes. He looks at her in concern. She shows him her wrists. He did not expect her to be a cutter. He asks why. She answers “when I was little I was so ugly. Everyone made fun of me.” He stared at her in amazement, he thought, “Why would such a beautiful girl be a cutter?”

“Uhm.” He said, “I would have never guessed that you would have done that.”

“Hey! Just because I’m not ugly anymore doesn’t mean it still hurts inside. I cant even imagine how it would be if I went back to middle school.” She said in a stern voice.

“I understand that it is difficult, but just think that your beautiful now and not ugly. You’ve had many boyfriends. Believe it or not I had a girlfriend who somehow got so mad at me that-” he sniffled, “-that she killed herself.”

“Oh my God! I’m so sorry...I know how it is to loose people close to you. I lost my older brother in a plane accident and my parents died in a car accident. My mom and dad died when I was little so my older brother had to take care of me, but, when I was 15 my brother went into the army. He paid the bills for two years and I lived alone. When the army came to my house with the letter saying that he died I lost it and I fell into Jim’s arms who is now the one who I live with.” She said. He looked at her with no words. The bell rang and Mackenzie got up and left the classroom. He was stunned, no one ever talked to him. He gathered his things and walked out. He wanted to find her, but didn’t know where to look. He saw her with her friends. As they walked by Mackenzie told them to wait. She gestured for him to come with them, he did. Lilly, one of Mackenzie’s friends, smiled at him. She was thin, very thin with dark red hair. He liked her instantly. He stopped her to talk and turns out that they have a lot in common.

Three weeks later Mackenzie and Lilly gave him a new look. They cut his hair and they bought him a new wardrobe. He liked his new look. A week later he asked Lilly if they could talk. “Lilly, it would be my honor to be your boyfriend” Lilly’s heart raced and she accepted. They dated for two months. A month before school ended they went on a date. His truck stalled on train tracks and there was no time to ditch the truck. Lilly held his hand and he whispered “I love you” to her but before she could reply the brightness of the headlights blinded them and from miles away you could hear the crunch of the little blue truck. Mackenzie awoke, she knew something wasn’t right. She got into Jim’s Mercedes Benz and drove. She drove to his house but wasn’t there and she drove to Lilly’s house. She wasn’t there either. Mackenzie thought to herself and remembered that they went on a date and were supposed to be home two hours ago. Mackenzie ran back to the car and drove. She drove over hills and down dirt roads. She drove over train tracks.

When she looked out her rearview mirror she saw tires laying by the track. She turned the car around and ran to the tires. She stood staring at the tires. Shaking, she looked to her left and the tailgate to his truck was crunched. Mackenzie ran, she tripped. Confused on what she tripped on she searched and what she found was devastating. His lifeless body twisted with metal and glass was laying on the tracks. Mackenzie couldn’t believe what she saw, when she turned around she saw Lilly. She noticed that Lilly’s hand was missing. When Mackenzie looked for it she found that it was clasped to his hand. While crying she dialed 911 and no more then a few minuets later the emergency vehicles arrived, as well as a TV crew. Mackenzie watched the lifeless bodies of her friends be taken away she collapsed. No one could wake her. While Mackenzie was in the hospital she was breathing fast and hard. She screamed. Nurses ran into her room. Shaking she demanded them to get her phone.

“No, we cant get your phone Mackenzie. Your phone had to go into evidence.”

“Where’s my phone?” She screamed, “I NEED to call my friend Lilly!”

The nurse looked at her, she walked out of the room and later returned with a doctor. He said; “Mackenzie, I’m sorry but your friends were killed by the train.”

“GONE? NO, NO, NO, THEY CAN’T BE GONE! YOUR LYING! TELL ME WHERE THEY ARE!” Mackenzie was furious. She demanded to be told the truth.

“Mackenzie!” The doctor said sternly, “Lilly and Colt are in Heaven. They are-” The nurse stopped him.

“Gone.”
