"Hey, Al! So nice to hear from you again, how're the kids?" you asked, you gave a big yawn and rubbed your tired eyes.

Oh you know, running wild in the woods, how are things up in the station? Al, a man who lived in a cabin nearby carves wood sculptures and sells them online and to tourists. You personally loved his kids and would babysit for him whenever, or you would honestly just take them out for nature walks or fish with them. They were obsessed with you.

"I'm swamped with paperwork right now, I have no idea why that lab is making me sign all of these liability forms..." you grumbled.

That lab is actually the reason I called you. We haven't been able to get any sleep for the past week. Is there any way you could handle that? He asked.

"I'll see what I can do," you promised.

Ok, say hi to Ellie for me! Al asked, he loved the kestrel.

"I will, tell the kids to swing by whenever they want!" You hung up the phone and sighed, that was your fourth noise complaint this week, and they weren't being overdramatic. You're one of the heaviest sleepers in New York and even you were losing sleep over this, what the hell were they doing? You had to call them, you had to talk to that Doctor Octavius... You punched in the numbers and waited for the line to connect.

Thank you for contacting the Alchemex Catskills branch, this is Cheryl how can I help you today? A kind female voice asked.

"Hello yes, I'm Officer L/N, game warden of the Catskills Mountain House Site and surrounding areas. I've been getting noise complaints about your facility, is there any way I can speak to Doctor Octavius about that?" You asked.

I apologize but the Doctor has the next two months booked... Cheryl replied.

"Is there any way I can get in? This-" you started.

Sorry, no... Would you like me to schedule you for an appointment in two months? Cheryl asked.

"Yes, but I really need-"

Ok, you're scheduled! We will see you two months from today, we hope to speak to you again soon! Cheryl hung up before you could respond.

"Did you just hear that?" you asked as you fed your animals, Carl, a fat orange cat meowed in response.

"You know what? No, no I'm not waiting two months! I'm going over there right now!" you put on your lucky hat and stormed out of the cabin, rehearsing what you were going to say when you got there.

"I would like to speak-No, no it needs to be more urgent... I need to speak to Doctor Octavius, yes that works," you muttered to yourself as you approached the security checkpoint.

"Hi! I'm Officer L/N, I'm the game warden for this area. I'm here to talk to Doctor Octavius about some things." you told the security guard.

"Here's a guest pass, it expires at the end of the day." he handed you a guest pass, not even looking up... that was easy.

"Thank you!" you smiled as you drove into Alchemex, you looked around, you've only seen it from afar, never up close... You didn't like it. You parked your car and walked inside into the entrance, you saw the woman that you assumed to be Cheryl... You were going to avoid her, you stopped a scientist.

"Hello! I'm here to talk to Doctor Octavius, do you know where her office is?" You asked.

"Hi! Take the elevator to the second floor, take two lefts, then a right, her office is at the end of the hallway, if you get lost just ask anybody here, they'll help you." She answered.

"Thanks." You headed towards the elevator and used your guest pass, you followed the scientist's instructions and knocked on the door, you heard a crash and some colorful language, then the one and only Doctor Octavius opened the door, she pushed up her glasses and smiled.

"Officer L/N? What an unexpected surprise! Come in, come in." she ushered you into a very messy lab, papers were scattered all over the place, she sat down on a yoga ball and gestured to a seat across from her desk, a stack of papers was on it.

"Should I?" you gestured to the papers.

"Oh, yeah sorry! I know it looks like a mess, but I have my system, and if it isn't like this... Well, I can't think!" the doctor rambled as she moved the papers, you sat down.

"So, what can I help you with?" She asked.
"Well, Doctor-"

"Oh please, call me Liv." Liv interrupted.

"Oh... ok, well in that case, you can call me Y/N."

"Great! We're already on a first-name basis... That's great! So why are you here? You're not supposed to check in for another three weeks... Oh no has it been a month already?" she asked, checking her computer.

"No, no it hasn't," you reassured her.

"Oh, good. It's just time flies by when you're solving the mysteries of the universe." she joked.

"Ok, well I'm actually here for another reason. I've been getting noise complaints and they are all coming from this facility, is there any way that you could stop whatever is making that noise?" You asked.

"I'm sure I can, I'm assuming it's the generators?"

"I have no idea, so yes?"
"Well, I've been working on a new sound-dampening material that would help prevent it... I'll have some of my guys work on that, it'll take a month at the most."

"That would be great, well it was great talking-" You started to get up to leave.

"Would you like a tour? I can explain our mission, it's fascinating really-"

"Are you sure? I know you're a very busy woman-"

"It'll be my pleasure! I have to check on some of my teams anyway so that'll be good! Come on, come on!" Liv grabbed your hand and led you out of her lab, you blushed slightly at that.

"Ok so to your left is the robotics division, they're currently working on nanotech and soft robotics." She started as she led you inside, you found a small group of scientists controlling what looked like an octopus tentacle.

"Amazing, right? It has a titanium skeleton and reinforced silicone, it's impenetrable." She smiled.

"Why does it need to be impenetrable?" You asked.

"If we need to work on the collider as it's on, these would be the most effective... And for other things."

"What-" you started, but she was already talking to the scientists, filling out a form.

"Ok! On to the next one, this one's my favorite... Probably because it's my life's work..." she dragged you to wherever the hell you were going.

"That would make sense..." you stammered, who was this woman? You struggled to keep up as the two of you weaved through hallways, going upstairs, and at some point, you swore that you were just running in circles.

"Here we are! My life and joy, the multiversal collider!" she exclaimed proudly as she opened a large metal door, you saw a team of scientists running around, you saw two large metal things facing a small box in the middle, you raised an eyebrow.

"Is this the thing that made all that noise?" you asked.

"...yes, but I sent over the sound panels to my team, they'll get it finished as soon as possible. Isn't she beautiful?" she gushed.

"...What am I looking at?" you asked.

"You are looking at the future! This machine is going to take us into the multiverse, imagine that!" Liv exclaimed.

"...The multiverse is real?"

"Yes! Yes, it is! And by using this collider, not only will I prove that, but we'll be able to travel the multiverse!" she pushed up her glasses again and hurried over to a monitor, talking excitedly to one of the scientists. You stood there awkwardly, you were never into this kind of stuff... But it was very interesting, and you couldn't help but smile at Liv's enthusiasm, it was clear that she cared about this a lot. You just didn't know how much she cared about it.

...And how far she would go to keep her dream alive.
