I ran down to the reactor after Gabriel. If that wormhole is there, then Gabriel could suffer the same fate I have. "Gabriel!" I called out.
"Over here, Captain!"
'Oh thank god, he's still here.' I ran to where I heard his voice. 'But who knows for how long.'
I looked around frantically for Gabriel and the wormhole. I spotted Gabriel and walked up to him. "Gabriel." He turns around and salutes. "Status Report of the reactor."
"Everything seems stable so far, Captain. Just a few more minutes just to make sure and we'll be ready to go."
This eased my nerves just a bit. I sighed in relief. "Oh good. Thank you, Gabriel."
"Just doing my duty, Captain."
I smiled at him. "And you're doing great. Keep up the good work and be careful, okay?"
"Of course. You too, Captain." He turns around and gets right back to work.
I look at the door that leads to THE hallway. The one that either had a wormhole at the end of it or nothing. 'I wonder if this ship has the Horizon Protocall?' Well, only one way to find out.
I opened the door and stared down the long dark hallway. I cautiously step foot into said hallway and walk down, my gaze never leaving the door at the end. It wasn't until I made it to the end when all my thoughts came crashing through my brain.
'What would I do if there is a wormhole? If this ship does have the Horizon Protocol and I blow up this section of the ship, what would the crew think? Would I still be in the loop? Will I ever escape the loop? Would I be stuck here? Would I get back to my ship?' I looked around the hallway. There were no bombs. "Shit." I whispered to myself. I looked back at the door. 'I should still check and I can at the very least report it back to Mack since he's sO sMaRt! Ugh.' I raised my hand to the scanner and let it hover there for a few moments. "Okay. 3…2…1…" The door whooshes open and…
Nothing.
There was no wormhole.
My eyes widen. "What?" I walked in and out of the door, looking all around the room for the bright blue glow. "Where did it go?!" There was nothing. No blinding blue light, no giant swirling vortex, it was just… gone.
I frantically ran back to the bridge. I immediately turned on the consoles as some of the crew looked at me in confusion. "Computer! Are there any wormholes nearby we should worry about?"
"There are no wormholes near the vicinity of the ship."
No… no no no no no NO! I mean, yes that's a good thing! That means the ship won't be destroyed but how will I get back home?!
I nod my head. "Alright. Thank you, Computer."
"You're welcome, Captain."
I sighed, wondering what I should do now. I looked at my left hand to see that the crystal was still there. 'Should I press it? Maybe this will take me home?' I looked around the room, gazing at every single crew member. 'Everyone here is still alive, as far as I know. Maybe if I…' I looked down at the crystal and gently traced it with my other thumb. I shake my head, glaring at myself. 'No! I can't stay here! I need to get back to MY crew…. But maybe… Maybe if I stay here… and figure out how to work the ship. Solve every potential problem that could happen in my home universe.' I looked at the blast shield in front of me.
The image of Mark flying through the window into the cold darkness of space. Gunther getting blasted down by the ADS system.
The ship getting blown up or shot down because of my poor leadership.
Celci going insane and making everyone go into Cryosleep, forever.
Burt making himself one with the ship and setting it to self-destruct.
Gunther turning the crew against me and forcing me to resign as Captain.
Lady pointing a gun at me and blaming me for everything because I am the Captain.
I am the captain.
Everyone looks up to me.
Everyone relies on me.
Everyone trusts me.
Everyone put their faith in me.
I have to be the leader.
I have to prove myself that I am good enough to be their captain.
'I could save my crew.'
