Chapter 58 - Naive

Start from the beginning

I'm starting to understand why Morax always made sure that the soul was gone before letting anyone near the corpse.

Only another god's power is capable of dispersing a god's soul.

Most gods would rather let their soul reincarnate than keep it around in fear of it being dispersed, so why did he stay?

"I'm still so so angry. How dare she place a seal on the portal! She abandoned them during the war, so how dare she restrict access to Enkonomiya?! Those people are all dead anyway, what's the use of a seal!" Ororbashi's soul continued to ramble angrily.

Enkonomiya? He wanted Enkanomiya? But Istaroth would never let-

He doesn't know! He probably doesn't know that Istaroth is still alive!

He has no way of knowing, so he covets Enkanomiya!

This could work! A weakened soul, if angered too much, might just disperse by itself.

 "She's alive you know."

"What are you saying, little sacrifice?"

 "Istaroth, she's still alive."

I threw out the bait and waited for his reaction. Sure enough...

"What?! Impossible! There is no way she survived the war! How dare you lie, little maggot!"

 Oh, wow. He's really angry.

"I didn't lie. I met her not long ago in Mondstadt. She was quite happy too."

"Mondstadt? Mondstadt?! If you want to lie, make up a better one! Everyone knows that she never got along with Barbatos, how would she dare walk around in his territory?"

"Never got along with Barbatos? But those two looked quite friendly the last time I saw them."

 "You lie! You lie!"

"If she was dead, why would her seal still remain after so many years?"

This seemed to be the last push.

"Istaroth! How dare you! You still live yet you hide, leaving me to suffer?! How dare you trick me! How dare you make me like this?!"

What kind of logic is that? Just how did you manage to blame everything on Istaroth?

"And you, little maggot. Since you've met her, it means you should mean a lot to her, isn't that right?"

 Oh no!

"Since she's made me suffer like this, why don't I take away what's hers, since you've so kindly approached me first? Hahahaha!"

It seems like I failed to take this into account!

I dodged an incoming attack of energy filled with hatred.

In the state I'm in right now, if one of those hits me, I'll probably either go crazy or die.

Even though others might think I don't pay attention to my own health, I'm more than aware of the state my body is in. Just being in this room is already pushing it, let alone fighting a god.

 "How slippery!"

Another attack came from the right, followed by one from the left.

The attacks are getting faster, but...

They also seem to be getting weaker.

It looks like putting the infected to sleep was the right move after all. Al long as he doesn't get any more power, he'll exhaust himself soon enough-

"Oh, what is this? My power is returning? Just what are those humans doing out there?"

What?! His power is returning? This shouldn't be happening.

At that same moment, a black orb floated into the room, hovering mid-air.

"Xiao, are you alright?" I hear a shout from behind me, followed by footsteps.

Why are they here?! Why are they all here?!

"Your friends, maggot? How about I get rid of them first?"

The orb started vibrating as if would shoot about any minute.

 No! No, you don't!

I threw my spear before I even knew it. It struck the ground in front of the group and the next moment a windshield formed with it at the center, blocking the group.

"How naive! You actually fell for that? This is why yakshas shouldn't get attached to mere mortals."

A sinister laugh filled the cave, along with the sound of an explosion.
