there are many symbols in punctuation most of you guys should know how to use the basic ones.

You guys like I said should know how to use most of them due to English class, but not all of the symbols are used in creative writing.
Not typically used
: & * ; -
Most used
. , ! ? " ' ()
Just to emphasizes the reason why the least used puncuation isn't used as much I'll give a quick explination for each.
: a colon isn't used for simple reasons, writers don't really need to separate their lists from sentences in creative writing its just a little too technical.
& Honestly not many people use this in general, its just easier to type an I believe this is only really used in things like citations and company names
* okay unless you're writing a screen play and decide that instead of (parentheses) use the *astride* or doing live chat RP talk its not really used.
; around the same reasons as the colon its just a little too technical
- Its more custom to use a ,comma, instead of a -hyphen- because the comma does the same as the hyphen and more.
