The sun was setting low away from the mountain as four bodies stood near each other, watching and laughing as someone made a silly joke. Jules, a tall genderfluid person who wore Victorian era clothing alongside a black hog mask, sat on a bench, with his legs crossed, by himself as the other two chatted with high energy. His mask sat comfortably against his face as he grinned wide. It was something he never seemed to take off either, even when he slept the mask would rest fittingly against the top portion of his features. In front of him stood Saturn. A short white haired, pale skin, female who always wore something cozy, a sweater, a skirt, and even earrings to match her light attitude. Then there was Flower next to her, an average height fellow with black and red hair which had recently been dyed brown. Currently a very soft pink dress flowed gently with their movement as they laughed with Saturn. Their pale skin nearly mirrored hers when the sun shone on them from above. However in the fading light, it gave both of their skins a soft more delicate texture. As the sun had set and the moon began to shine ever so brightly on them, a pumpkin headed being moved into the light of the campfire. Smokee, a pumpkin headed female who always seemed to be decorated in a black cloak. Their figure slightly towering over Flowers but still managing to be shorter than Jules as they came to rest beside the taller. As night had started they all seemed to be at ease even more now. The laughs gently died off as they seemed to just breathe in the cool air around them.
The darker haired male spoke up first, "I can't believe we all finally got a chance to relax today." Jules gave a light smile as he leaned back into the bench comfortably. Smokee gave a nod as she gently nudged his arm. "I agree, moving in and settling things seemed to be such a hassle. Especially for our new mayor." Everyone seemed to beam at that, as their gazes pointed to Saturn.
Saturn upon their arrival to the area had been declared mayor with how quickly she was capable of getting people moving on their own to build up homes and businesses. Saturn had a soft smile as she fiddled with the light hem of her sweater. "It was nothing guys, we all pitched in." Flower waved her off, "You never give yourself credit. Why don't you just accept that you're amazing?" A wave of nods followed as Saturn shrugged softly. "It's nothing really." She said playfully as she stood up. Stretching her hands above her head she yawned. "I'm gonna go on a quick walk if that's okay? I really need to stretch my legs for a moment." Everyone gave a collective, "Yeah you're fine." Or even, "It's no worries, just be safe." With that being said Saturn waved to her friends before she walked off as the others began another light conversation.
As Saturn walked the night wind caused her snow white hair to whip behind her. The sudden increase in wind caused her to turn back to the forceful gust, only to realize she stood outside of a small cave entrance. Completely puzzled she spun around, a complete 360, before turning to the cave. "When- how..?" Confused but curious no less, she would make her way inside. Behind a wall of overgrown moss and amethyst was a single chest that stood in the center of the room. She treaded carefully towards the chest, until her shoes came to rest in front of it. She looked down at the big box, finding nothing out of the ordinary about it. Her eyes glanced to the side as she slowly began to take in the area. Amethyst and moss decorated the wall as the ground shimmered from the water that ran beside it. In awe she looked back to the chest realizing just how lit up this place seemed. She was surprised with how no one had come across it yet. She swore she hadn't even walked ten minutes away before this place came up behind her. Hesitant, she reached down, opening up the chest with a surprised look. Inside rested nothing but a single book. It glowed a soft purple only to glow brighter in her hands. Nearly as if she were to hold the sun within her fingertips. It lit up the cave to the point she was squinting as she carefully removed the book from its placement. The chest snapped closed once her hands were no longer near it. Startled, she lost her balance falling back onto the cold moist ground. A shiver shot up her spine as she looked down to the book that rested beside her now. She grabbed it with a big sigh and placed it in her lap. Adjusting herself she ran her hands over the book noticing something on the leather backing she couldn't make out just quite. Though confused and even scared, she carefully opened up the delicate pages. The book felt weird, the world grew far colder as the lights dimmed drastically, almost as if someone had stripped the world of all the light but a single lantern. She swallowed nervously as she began to skim through the pages. They were empty. . . all of them seemed to be empty until she reached the last four pages. The words were written in a dark ink, and called her to read them allowed. Without a single feeling of hesitation she read them confidently, "You've been picked, Saturn. Stumbling upon this book was no mistake however what this book will guide you to find is. . . well you'll see. Eight books are scattered across the land my dear. Three of which are gifts, if you will. The Dance of Death, The Kiss of Life, and lastly The Eye of the Beholder . Lovely names aren't they? Of course they are but these books are not what you think. They're dangerous, Saturn. Far beyond what your human brain could imagine. You will face many challenges my friend. So I need you to think about something. . ." The book's page is suddenly cut off, nearly as if someone had ripped the page out. Though they seemed to miss the next page, the very last words written in the book. "Be careful as to who you show this to. You never know if people are trustworthy. No matter how close they seem."
Stunned and shocked, Saturn closed the book slowly as she was far too deep in thought. The world around her came back in such vivid colors that she could feel her head throb in a dull ache.
Nervous was a lie but she had known someone long enough that she was certain he would know what to do. Standing up quickly, she held the book close to her chest as she began her journey home.
