Separate Worlds

Chapter 1

     Aspen inhaled as she added another homicide to the list. The murders were piling up and they had no lead. Only that the murderers like to kill in quite.. creative.. ways.

     A man, aged 27, was set up to look like a suicide. Although any cop could tell it was fake. There was bruising around his neck, and blunt trauma to his head. She'll spare you the details, but lets just say they had to get the firefighters involved. It's not often you see a man hanging around 24 feet in the air under a busy bridge.

    The most recent homicide was a young oriental girl, she was 19 and was stabbed once. It was quite a sight. She laid in a flower field and it almost appeared as if the flowers were engulfing her body.

     There were others, and they seemed to be targeted. They were within 17 - 32, and the victims all were alone.

     Aspen pulled up the news in a new tab, and all the local pages were on the murders. One article in particular read, "Police turn a blind eye to safety, and ignore the homicides..". She rolled her eyes, and thought how far from the truth that was.

     Aspen closed her laptop, and sighed. Another homicide? And we still had no lead. Whoever the killer was, they weren't dumb. She grabbed the knife the girl was killed with to be sent to forensics. It was carefully enclosed in a sterile plastic bag, with the bold word EVIDENCE on it.

     The killer or killers always struck within 4 days of each other. The first one dating 27 days ago. If they wanted to get behind this killer, they had to work. And fast.

      Apollo smirked as his associates came back with another successful outing. The police were slow in catching up to them; almost making the job boring. Almost.

     Although don't give their mafia all the credit. Some of their targets have been killed. It puts them behind schedule.

     Apollo pondered and lit his cigar, thinking off how they could catch their rivals off guard.

     There would be a way he would discover soon. There definitely would.
