Chapter 002

Sindel's POV
The next morning I realized that I'd woken up late which made the familiar pit of anxiety well up in my stomach.

I was supposed to wake up at 6am not 7:30.

I quickly got up and remade the bed before grabbing my clothes and taking my twenty minutes. When I exited the bathroom I put my clothes in the hamper and went to the kitchen.

John was cooking breakfast and talking to Zatanna when I entered catching Zatanna's attention "Morning, sleepyhead, how'd you sleep?" She asked, I frowned and said "I shouldn't have slept that much" Zatanna shrugged and said "You were exhausted. We understand" John scoffed and said "I think you should sleep in more often. Ya got bags under your eyes. Yer not with Charlie anymore, ya can be a child not a parent now" Zatanna shot him a look. I don't think it was a happy one.

I simply nodded and said "I know, but the routine makes me feel....safe" John looked at me before walking over to the dining table and began putting food on the plates laid there "Well, maybe we should come up with a new routine, then. One that allows you to be a child, but also gives you comfort. How's that sound?" My lips quirked and I nodded "Thank you, John" John waved me off "Eat. You'll need it for today."

I nodded and sat down.

Jones and Megan picked us up and drove us to Happy Harbor where'd we'd meet up with the Justice League and Mini League.

Megan ushers me to the side without touching me and introduces me to the team "Guys, this is Sindel. They're John and Zatanna's apprentice" I signed 'Hello, it's nice to meet you all' some looked confused while a few understood a Hispanic male in his mid teen wearing a hoodie says "It's sign language. They said 'Hello, it's nice to meet you all'" I peered over at him and nodded. He smiled and said "I'm Jaime, or Blue Beetle."

After that everyone starts introducing themselves, and at some point I end up on the couch with John's new student Raven. I sat nervously next to her and asked 'Do you know sign?' "No, but I'm a telepath" I nodded unsure of how to start a conversation. Should we talk? Or would that make it awkward? I know I should try to get to know her.....

"Anything I should know about Constantine?" Raven asks, I nodded 'He's a recovering alcoholic, but an amazing magic user, so don't worry. The only bad thing about him is that he chooses to save others with no regard for himself' Raven nods and asks "What about Zatanna?" 'Zatanna is very kind and a powerful magic user. If she looses control get John and stay away.'

Raven seemed surprised by this but then asked "And you?" 'John classifies me as a celestial mage. He says that my brand of magic effects my thinking leading most people to believe I'm mentally ill or autistic. I developed OCD as a coping mechanism, and it became my life line to this world' "This world?" I nodded 'Celestial mages can astral project to magically charged parts of space. It can be near the planet next door or in a galaxy light years away.'

I waited for her next question but Zatanna approached us and said "It's time to go Sin" I nodded and stood up. I turned and signed 'We'll talk more tomorrow' and we left.

We got back to the apartment and I immediately started cooking with Zatanna. John sat in the living room and sighed "Raven's young like ya, Sindel, I'd like ya to be there with us when we're training.

I look in his direction "To...socialize?" He nodded "It'll be good for ya. Ya should've been socialized with ya sister but she's a sociopath..." my lips twitched upwards and I set a glass of water in front of him along with dinner.

We ate and when we finished I did the dishes after some argument from John and Zatanna. I did all the cooking and chores with Charlie, it was a bad habit to break.

Afterwards I went to the bathroom and washed my face and brushed my teeth. Then I went to my room and changed into pajamas.

I turned off the lights and tucked myself in then I stared blankly at the ceiling. Before I knew what I was doing I was drifting away again.
