Why was he fighting so hard?

The pale man on the other side of the illuminated pool was chatting away with a woman about something he didn't care to know about. The strange man laughed at a joke the woman must have made, his nose crinkled like he was amused, although his eyes held no emotion as he laughed. The lights from the large body of water shined a shade of blue as they hit the man's face.

The entire evening they had been playing this ridiculous game of cat and mouse. The dark haired man had been attempting his absolute best to get to the fair haired man with no avail. It almost seemed like he had been taunting him, laughing at his misery.

None of his other victims had been this stubborn.

He glared at him as the music grew louder, he needed a plan. He had tried everything from cornering him to even drugging him but nothing seemed to work. It was like the man knew what he was attempting to do. But that's impossible right? He can't possibly know, right?

Well, there was one thing he hadn't tried yet.

Aproaching him.

___

"Ahem, excuse me sir?" The man raised his eyes from the drink in his hand, glancing over his form, studying him.

"Well, aren't you a sight to see?" his voice was low and almost sounded a bit like he was mocking him.
"A married man alone at a party, what the wife not satisfied?" he smirked as the dark haired man stiffened at the mention of being married.

"How did you know I was-" "your ring." the man cut in simply. Oh.

"It's beautiful, really, it is. Such a shame you're here and not with your wife though." he grinned sickly at him. The dark haired man gritted his teeth.

"She's dead." the man deflated slightly at the confession, almost like he was disappointed. "Hm, such a shame, I'm deeply sorry for your loss. It must have been extremely difficult."

He sighed. "It was. She meant a lot to me." the man smiled sadly. "I used to have someone. It's amazing how far we would go for someone we care for, don't you think?" he questioned with a strange tone to his voice.

The Dark-haired man raised an eyebrow at the peculiar question. The man huffed a laugh.

"I mean, what would you do for her? How far would you be willing to go for your deceased wife? Please, let me know, how far would you go to bring her back?"

The questions sent chills down his spine. Why was he talking about this? What was this deranged man spewing on about? The thought that he could be onto him even more than he anticipated brought the hairs on the back of his neck to a stand.

"Anything, I'd do anything to get her back."

The man smiled wickedly. And what came out of his mouth would run through his mind for several nights to come.

"Then kill me."
