Idiots.
I ran to the sink and quickly washed my hands, hopefully I wouldn't spread any infection.
I ran back to them. "Hand me a pillow or something. I need to elevate it."
Jerry tossed me a pillow. I slowly slid it under.
"I-I need cloth." I said.
All of them took their shirts off.
I hate men.
"I don't need that much, morons." I grabbed the nearest one and then blushed when I smelled the familiar cologne. It was Keefe's.
Not the time, Soph.
I slowly wiped the blood and then compressed it. I kept my eyes trained on the wound.
"I need a glass of water. He's out cold. And I need another shirt."
Someone else's and I compressed it on top of the other.
Travis handed me a glass of water from the sink and I splattered some on his face.
He immediately woke up.
(Lol, I'm not a doctor, idk how this stuff works)
"S-soph?" He stuttered.
I let out a breath and threw my arms around him. "Idiot. What did you do to yourself?"
He was way too confused to answer so Jerry answered for him. "Some moron threw a punch at him when we were coming back from school. Shane being the short-tempered, low-stamina idiot he is, he decided that it would be a good idea to punch him back."
"W-why did you guys call Sophie and... him." He asked.
He said 'him' as if it was poison. I think Keefe and him really hated each other.
"Because, unlike all of these brainless jocks, I'm majoring in Biology next year, and I know what I'm doing with my life."
Sam furrowed his eyebrows. "I'm not a brainless jock. I'm just a jock who doesn't understand multiplication."
I gave Shane a 'see-what-I-mean' look and he shook his head in understanding.
And that's when realization settled. In both of us. We weren't friends anymore.
"Hey, uh, guys, I want to show you this, um, new pass that coach taught me last night. Come outside." Keefe said.
Jerry looked confused for a second before he understood what was happening. "Oh--yes. That's nice. Come on, guys. Captain's orders." He motioned to Keefe as everyone followed him.
This left just Shane and I.
Shane started off into space as he lounged on the couch. "I'm sorry." He suddenly spoke up.
My head snapped to him. "You should be."
"Look, Soph, Keefe and I have a lot of beef. I just wanted you to stay away from him because of that stuff." He looked at me apologetically.
"What kind of stuff, Shane? Neither you or Keefe ever explained it to me, yet you expect me to understand and be fine with everything." I said, shaking my head.
He blew out a breath. "Keefe's father and my father worked together on a business project back in 2019. So, they had many casual dinners with both of our families. Keefe and I weren't great friends, but we weren't enemies either, we had small talk during dinner, but that's about it."
He paused then continued. "Then, one night during dinner, Keefe's father drugged my brother. He died, Soph. I saw him doing it. But, I was naive back then, I didn't know that it was actually a drug or anything. I just thought he was putting salt in his soup like my brother asked him to."
"Why?" I whispered, my voice completely done functioning. I didn't even know he had a brother.
"Because my brother was next in line for the company, according to the contract. But if the heir to the company dies or refuses to own it, the partner, which was Keefe's dad, gets to keep it. So, being the selfish idiot he was, he killed my brother. The police didn't arrest him since Keefe came to his father's defense. Even though he knew that his father was capable of doing stuff like this."
"I confronted him about this, hoping that it was just a misunderstanding on his side. I told him about the soup incident and how his father poured the so-called 'salt' into my brother's soup. I told him that his father would be in possession of our company if my brother died since my dad was going to retire and he couldn't change the contract to my name since I was only 10 at the time."
"But Keefe refused to listen to me and he went on and on about how 'family comes first'. I hope his father dies one day. Then he can understand how it feels."
I looked up at him once he finished his long rant, and Iaced my fingers around his. "Shane... his father died 2 weeks ago. His mother commited suicide the next morning."
"Wha..." His eyes widened as his face drenched in guilt.
"Yeah. I'm sorry for going against what you told me to do. I know that it wasn't fair to you. But this was years and years ago. Keefe has changed. I know that you guys could be great friends if you tried. Or even just 'allies' would be fine too. Just give him a chance. You two are the most important people in my life, and--"
"Okay, fine." He grumbled, but the smile he tried to hide still crept out.
"Really?!" I exclaimed. That was a lot easier than I thought it would be.
He tried to muster up a nonchalant shrug, but miserably failed. "I guess."
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" I shouted, throwing my arms around him.
He grunted against me, and I realized he still had that giant gash from earlier.
Shoot.
"Sorry, I just really missed you." I said.
He just chuckled. "It's fine. I know you've been here for some time now. I think you should go home and get some rest. I'll see you Monday, Soph."
"Alright, just text me if you need anything and I'll be there."
"With your driving skills, it'll probably and hour." He said under his breath.
"Hey! I heard that!" I said as he mustered up an innocent face.
"Bye Shane." I began to walk to the door.
"Oh, and by the way," he said as I turned back to him, "I missed you too."
I smiled out of pure happiness. Life couldn't be going better.
Now I just had to talk to Keefe about this whole situation. But that could wait.
As I walked out of the door, I saw just Keefe. Most of the guys went home and the rest went back inside to help Shane.
"Hey, is everything okay between you two?" Keefe asked. He look legitimately worried. At the same time, he looked so cute, I could just squeeze the life out of him.
Forget I said that.
"Everything is just fine." I said as I went up to him and wrapped my arms around his torso, pulling him into a hug.
Despite the fact that Shane and Keefe didn't like each other, Keefe still took the time to let us mend our friendship. And he didn't become selfish about it.
And that's when I realized.
I like Keefe Sencen.
Crap.
