A Glimpse Of Another Reality

"...This is fine." Kronshtadt, Volga, and Arkhangelsk said at the same time.

Kiev stopped her onslaught. "Well?"

"Ow... That was excrutiating!" Soobrazitelny remarked as she rubbed her already swollen red cheeks. "At least in the process, we figured out that we aren't in a dream since we can feel pain!"

"We can feel pain in dreams, though." Kiev countered.

"...Really?" Soobrazitelny tilted her head.

"Aww, that sounded like it really hurt. Come here and I'll kiss the boo-boo~" Volga said while gesturing the destroyer to come over.

"I politely refuse." Soobrazitelny denied.

"Aww..." Volga frowned.

"Wait, I just remembered something!" Soobrazitelny perked up.

"What is it?" Arkhangelsk asked.

"I've heard an experimental technology that puts you in an ultra-vivid dream state! It even lets multiple people experience the dream concurrently!" Soobrazitelny elaborated. "Though, this can't be it. If we moved our dream bodies, then we might bump into things in rea life. Which only leaves us one option - this IS a dream, after all."

"Let me pull your cheeks one more time." Kiev cut in.

"Stop it, Kiev. Pulling on her cheeks is useless. It won't do anything but hurt her." Kronshtadt halts her.

"One thing's for sure - when we manage to escape, I'll write a report about that machine." Arkhangelsk said.

"Good idea. Omit the fact I asked for vodka and write about that instead." Kronshtadt agreed.

"Thanks for reminding me. I'll be sure to include that, too." Arkhangelsk smiled innocently.

'...Fuck.' Kronshtadt cursed internally.

"As for the immediate present... Does anyone know where we are?" Soobrazitelny changed the topic. "The temperature's cozy, but the humidity will make my machines rust up. I'm guessing that this is an island somewhere in the southern hemisphere?"

"Most likely." Arkhangelsk confirms. "Volga, can you send some recon planes?"

"Will do~" Volga said.

Volga clapped her hands twice. Soon, two Yak-3 fighters materialized and flew high up in the sky, maintaining a close formation. The fighters got near into an island after a few minutes of flying, but they did not approach any further and maintained their distance.

"Hmm... There are people in tourist clothes in that island. No military installations." Volga reported. "Safe to say, this is a vacation spot!"

"So I was right on my first guess!" Soobrazitelny cheered.

"That still doesn't connects to how did we suddenly end up here when we were in a submarine at the bottom of the Atlantic just a few minutes ago." Arkhangelsk added. "Its a pleasent change of scenery, don't get me wrong, but a lot of things don't feel right here."

"Well, there are no dangers or enemies in sight, so I guess this is fine...?" Kiev said.

"...Kronshtadt, what do we do?" Arkhangelsk inquired.

"The briefing said 'gather data' and did not elaborate further beyond that." Kronshtadt answered. "Likely in no small part because Soyuz couldn't predict what would happen after we synchronized... But don't worry, I'll get us out of this. Wherever we are, nobody alive expects us to be here. A spy like me couldn't ask for better circumstances than that."
