Alex Smith, having moved to Kalos from Nimbasa city, Unova, he was awestruck at the many new Pokemon he had seen during the plane ride to Lumiose city. Since the day he and his parents touched down in Kalos, Alex would often sit down in the local Lyandré Café and enjoy a cup of coffee, spending his time studying about pokemon and catching himself up on the latest news broadcast done by Malva, one of Kalos's own elite four.
One time during his visit, he happened to see a pokemon carrying a satchel on it's side stumble into the café, looking troubled. Moving over to it he'd crouch down to the herdier and smile.
A: "Hey there, you ok?"
He asked as he looked to it, the herdier only responded by quickly shaking off the satchel and running off again.
A: "Hey, wait!"
He went to chase after it but, he quickly turned, paid for his drink and ran outside. However the dog-like pokemon was nowhere to be seen, curiously, he looked into the satchel and found a package, a package addressed to Professor Sycamore himself!
A: "Was it delivering this?"
He wondered to himself and it was then he decided to deliver it himself, sure he was excited to meet the professor, but he knew he had some explaining to do when he did.
As he walked through the streets of Lumiose, he thought about how he would explain this to the professor, what if he didn't believe him? What if the professor thought he was lying and tried to steal the package? Shaking his head of such thoughts, Alex focused on the task ahead.
Taking an alleyway he crossed into Vernal Avenue, looking around at the skyscrapers and businesses around, the gogoats giving people rides to their stops and the many kinds of pokemon walking with their trainers.
One pokemon in particular, he was familiar with, a Shuppet. It was floating around in the alley across from him, pausing in place Alex couldn't help but look at it, but once it seen him, it seemed to almost panic and vanished like most ghost types do, fading out of sight to hide.
A: "Was it scared of something?"
He thought to himself as he continued along his way and eventually reaching a building, looking around he wondered if this was the right spot.
??: "Ahh, a young trainer looking to start their own journey I take it? Well, if your looking for the professor, he's right here."
Turning around to spot none other than professor Sycamore himself standing there, at first Alex was speechless, but quickly gathered himself.
A: "Oh, uh...professor..while I would like to stay and get my first pokemon, I can't"
Prof: "Oh? If that's the case might I ask why you are here then?"
Extending his hands to pass along the parcel to him, he gave a slight off-putting look but took the package.
A: "Before you wonder why it is I am handing it to you, I was in the Lysander café and a herdier walked in. It seemed rattled by something, when I moved to it, to try and figure out what was wrong it dropped this and ran off."
He paused for moment as if he was expecting to be cut off, but when it never came, he spoke up again.
A: "I figured it was important since it was addressed to you and decided to deliver it myself, I hope your not too upset"
The professor seemed to stand there and think for a bit, not saying anything, just look to him.
After a few more silent moments, the professor smiled to him.
Prof: "Hmm, you seem honest enough and if you really wanted to steal this you would have, I suppose I'll believe you. Yes this was important and I thank you for delivering it to me."
Once more the professor fell silent, then what came next Alex didn't expect to hear.
Prof: "Tell you what, you come and see me tomorrow, bright and early, by then I'll have something for you, deal?"
He extended a hand to Alex and with a bright smile, he took it and nodded in agreement.
A: "Deal, I'll be here"
With that, professor Sycamore left and entered the building, standing there, Alex couldn't believe it. Was he going get his own pokemon? The thought was enough to send a shot of excitement through him and shortly he was on his way home.
--a couple hours later--
A: "What the hell? I passed that sign four times already!"
He hissed to himself and groaned, he had gotten lost and the sun was nearly down. Deciding to cut through the alley next to him to save time, he moved quickly, as he did the feeling of something watching him formed quickly.
Before long he would turn to look behind him, only to see a pair of red eyes staring at him, soon there was two and then three. Going into a sprint he ran through the alleyway, taking the corner infront of him sharply he found himself at a dead end.
A: "Fuck...of the times to get lost..."
Turning to make his way out, trying to catch his breath, the red eyes moved around the corner. Revealing themselves was a group of Gengar, cackling to themselves as they closed in.
Unable to do much else, he braced himself as one of them was about to launch a shadow ball directly at him! The fear locking him in place, he could watch as the blackened purple orb, rush towards him.
Just before the orb hit, a shimmering barrier formed around him and a sight he didn't expect before him. A form he had seen before was floating there, just inches away.
A: "You're the Shuppet I seen earlier!"
Before he could he say anything else, it flew towards the Gengar that launched the Shadow ball and struck it with a feint attack, knocking it back, causing it to groan from the impact.
The Gengar now shifting its focus to the Shuppet, it loosed a dark beam towards it, unable to react in time, it took the dark pulse and flew backwards, down into wall behind it.
Crying out from the attack, Alex looked to the pokemon that risked itself to save him. This was his only way out of this, without thinking he grabbed a garbage can lid and moved infront of the Shuppet, just in time to barely hold his ground from the impact of another shadow ball.
A: "Hey, you alright? If we want to get out of this, I need you to trust me enough to follow my commands.."
Looking back at him, the Shuppet then nodded and floated upwards to him.
A: "Alright, now use-"
Before the words came out, the faint sound of an alarm faded in, starting low and eventually becoming louder and louder. Sitting up in his bed, he yawned and looked around, groggily his eyes met a pair that was very familiar to him by now.
A: "Morning Shadow"
Giving a soft tired smile, the Shuppet happily circling around him as he began to get ready for the day. Today, was a special day, he was finally going on his own journey and with his partner by his side, he said his goodbyes to his mother and father and set out towards the gate that lead out of Lumiose city.
