Well it's been what? Years? But here's me trying something new. Hope you enjoy like it.
NARRATORS POV:
She repeated the bridge of the song for the fifth time that morning, she still didn't like it perfectly, she was sure she could give more. So she tried again and again although the producer had already told her it was good.
"Celine, it's perfect" his raspy voice said from the other side of the glass. "Just one last try" she said coming closer to the microphone in front of her again, and hitting the perfect note just like she's been doing all morning long.
He stared at her, her eyes closed as she let out the most powerful note she's done in years. But when she opened her eyes she wasn't proud nor happy, she seemed exhausted that morning, defeated. So he couldn't help himself and went inside the booth.
"Cel..." he said extending his arm to softly grab hers. "What do you say about having a little break?" He asked with a smile. She looked incredulous at first, a soft and shy smile drawing on the corner of her lips. "Sounds good actually" she said and his hand softly squeezed her arm before turning around and going back to the technicians.
"Will be back in an hour guys" he said, and although they probably had work to be done, everybody left the studio and suddenly it was just the two of them. Something that she wasn't sure it made her feel safe or more like drowning that before.
She went out of the booth and stood there, staring at him as he prepared coffee for both of them. "Sugar?" He asked, but he immediately felt stupid just by asking it, because he knew perfectly how she had her coffee. And was completely used to disguise it. "Just one please" she said sitting on the big couch as he walked towards her with her coffee and the little bakery bag.
His fingers softly touched hers as she grabbed her cup from his hands. "Merci" she said trying to disguise the blush on her cheeks. "You brought croissants to the studio?" She asked surprised as he left the bag on the little coffee table in front of them and went back for his coffee.
"I just couldn't stop thinking about them when I woke up" he confesses with a smile, finally sitting next to her. More than an acceptable distance between their bodies, but tension still filled the air.
CELINES POV:
I had told him just the day before about those croissants and that little bakery around the corner that drove myself crazy but was always closed when we left the studio. And suddenly he appears with croissants next morning and gives everyone a break to have coffee with me? It just didn't seem real.
"You there?" He asks staring at me, and I can see there's something different in his eyes this morning, it's not just he cares about me - he's been caring like a father since I was twelve, it was just different although I couldn't tell what had changed.
"Sorry" I just shook my head, and took a sip of my coffee and smiled to him. "It's delicious thank you" I said smiling, trying to stop staring at him, so I looked away. "Celine..." he said but suddenly stopped, I could tell he wanted to talk to me but something was stopping him.
I just couldn't look at him and not expose my whole heart. "What's going on?" He asked, his whole body directed to me, his coffee completely forgotten on the little table. "Nothing" I faked a smile. "You know you can talk to me" he said smiling, god that smile that drove me crazy.
I wanted so badly to feel his lips more than just a quick kiss he left on my cheek before pulling apparat as he drove me home after recording. I wanted to feel his lips on mine, not just a professional quick goodbye.
"I do" I smiled as I finished my coffee, and thought he would keep asking, but he just stayed in silence next to me. It wasn't tense, but it wasn't as comfortable as it used to be. Because since we made our comeback after I learnt English and had my appearance fixed, I been trying to catch any clue that he felt something for me. At least a tiny bit of my overwhelming feelings for him. But I had no signs at all.
Sure I've caught him staring at me a few times, but he looked away the moment our gazes met. He was even more distant than before, when I was little at least he would hug me from time to time when I hit a good note or got an standing ovation. But now, not matter how many times I recorded that note this morning, I didn't get a hug, nor a smile. He kept slipping through my fingers. Being more distant every single day that went by.
And I just couldn't talk to him about it. I just couldn't tell him that I've been daydreaming about him for months. That our year off only made me love him more each day, counting the minutes to see him again. That he was the reason behind all my love songs, the one I danced for on stage and wear more revealing clothes every day.
No, I just couldn't talk with him about that.
RENÉS POV:
I can totally see she's lying to me, she's more distant since we came back. And I understand, she's not a girl anymore, she's becoming an incredible young woman that probably doesn't want to talk to me or be around me anymore. But I still feel like I need to do another effort.
"Maybe some guy you're thinking about?" I ask trying to be the cool manager I used to be with her but now I don't know how to behave myself around her anymore. She looked at me and raised an eyebrow. "You know I have like six sisters to have this chat right?" She said laughing of me and my useless attempt to get closer to her again.
"Well just in case Manon is unavailable" I said laughing. It felt good to be able to share a little laughter with her, everything's been kind of rigid the past months. "I'll let you know" she winked to me melting my heart, increasing those mix feelings that were already too hard to deal with.
"Rene..." she said but the door opened before she could say anything else. "Well let's get back to work" she said full singer mode and asking for people to play the song to know what needed to be changed. I was proud of her, I've always been, but the warmness that invaded my heart every time she was around was something new and different.
And I was completely clueless how to be around her anymore.
