"What?" I said, cautiously approaching him.
He picked up the note on the counter. "She left me."
I looked at the note in his hand.
Keefe, just know that I love you. You're better off without me in your life. I plan on drinking way too much tonight. And then I plan on meeting your father in heaven. I love you.
- Mom
Keefe fell to the floor, breaking down crying. His mother had committed suicide.
I immediately fell next to him, straddling him as I hugged him.
At this point, he was just sobbing. Over and over and over.
He wouldn't even hug me back. So, I took the sides of his face and made him look at me. I could feel his warm minty breath mixing with mine.
"Listen to me. I know exactly how you feel right now--" I began, but he interrupted me.
"No, you don't. I bet both of your parents didn't die, did they?" His voice shaking out of anger.
"Keefe--"
"You don't know how bad it feels to lose both of your parents." He said, as he let out another sob.
"But--"
"You don't know have badly it hurts to be a freaking orphan."
"Keefe! Would you just listen to me?"
"What?" He said harshly.
A couple of tears fell down my own cheeks as it bought back memories. But I quickly brushed them away. This was about Keefe. Not about me. When my tears feel down, Keefe's eyebrows furrowed.
"My parents died too. They passed away. I'm adopted. I know how you feel. So please, let me help you. No one was there for me when my parents died. No one. But I'm here for you. 100%. I just need you to open up to me." I blurted.
Keefe's anger morphed into sympathy. "Oh. I-I didn't know."
"Now, can I please give you a hug?"
Keefe responded by burying his face into my neck and wrapping his arms around my waist.
My arms wrapped around his neck, and we swayed from side to side.
"Go to the airport." He said, releasing from the hug and wiping excess tears away.
"Psh, and leave you alone? No thanks." I said plopping down on the huge couch.
"Foster, I'm not asking. Leave. I won't do anything dumb."
"How am I supposed to believe you?" I teased.
"You're not." Keefe joked.
I glared at him. "I'm jokinggg."
He began to push me out of the door. "You better text me every minute so that I know you're alive."
That was the last thing I was able to say before he shut the door in my face. I know he wouldn't do anything stupid.
I stepped into the car and made my way to the airport.

I spotted Shane in the huge mass of people. I smiled when I saw him, feeling every part of my body ready to pounce on him and give him a hug.
He didn't see me when I saw him, so I did the only reasonable thing to do.
I surprise attacked him.
Duh.
I slowly walked up behind him as he looked at his phone, about to text me.
And then I flung both of my arms around his neck and hoisted myself onto him, piggyback style.
He jumped around, ready to defend himself from whatever flung at him, but he visibly relaxed when he saw it was me.
He smiled as he wrapped his arms around my neck.
"Hey Soph." He whispered into my hair.
"I missed you so much." I spoke.
"Me too." He smiled at me shortly.
"Come on, let's go home. I, uh, have to... finish a... school project... for... school. So, I'll just drop you off and then head home." I just wanted to go check on Keefe. Hopefully he bought it.
"Aw, okay. But we can hang out later, right?" He asked.
"Yep." I said as we approached my car.
That's when it struck me.
What am I going to do with the whole Shane-Keefe thing?
