It's a pretty slow day for a Friday, but you find yourself plenty busy figuring out how everything works on your first day working there. it's pretty straightforward- watch the cameras, order materials, tell the other workers if anyone's trying to steal anything, etc. during your lunch break, you go grab a slice of pizza and a mountain dew from the kitchen.

"eating the pizza? That's brave." a voice behind you remarked. you turn around and see a short girl with extremely curly hair tied in a ponytail. She's leaning on a mop, and you assume she's a janitor.

"Yeah, well. what's the worst that can happen, right?" you respond. she shrugs.

"trust me, a lot. I spend most of my shift cleaning up what that pizza does to people. I'm Iris, by the way." she explained with a laugh. you put the pizza back and just take the soda.

"Maybe not then. I'm y/n, the new security guard here." you tell her.

"Cool, we needed a new one. Michael used to do that too, but that got too stressful so now he's only the engineer. it's good to have you here!"

"It was nice to meet you! I have to get back to work now though." you respond, unhappy to have to end the conversation.

"yeah, see you later then. oh wait- here's my number so we can hang out sometime. you're cool." she quickly says as she hands you a slip of paper with her name and number. you smile at her and go back to your office, and then put the number into your phone. The rest of the day went by smoothly, and all things considered it was a fun job. there was a certain nostalgia to the place- although there was nothing there to remind you of your childhood. you didn't have any places such as this in your hometown, and even if you did your parents were extremely strict and you were too sheltered to be allowed to ever go.

As the clock strikes closing time, you decide to wait in the office until the night guard shows up. Why not meet as many people as possible? you take another look at the cameras as you wait for them to show. As you flip through the screens, you see Michael hunched over his desk in the parts and service room. He's writing something in a journal, and it looks like he's talking to himself as well. Unfortunately, you have video only and can't hear whatever he's saying. What's wrong with me? you think to yourself as you realize how stalker-y you sound. you shut off the camera and walk out of the room, no longer wanting to wait for the night guard. you quickly head down to the locker room, change out of uniform and grab your belongings.

Before you leave for the night, you turn towards the parts and services room and consider going in to give Michael your number so the two of you can become friends- however you dismiss the idea as you don't want to come off as creepy to a man you just met. as you turn back around to leave the pizzeria, you bump into someone.

"I'm so sorry I didn't see-" you start to apologize, extremely embarrassed.

"relax, no harm done." the man replies. he's wearing the same uniform as you, meaning he must be the night guard, and the badge on his chest tells you his name is Vincent. he's eye level with you, so he must be around your height- about 5'9. he has straight black hair and dark bags under his seemingly purple eyes.

"Well, I shouldn't keep you here. sorry again." you say to him, and he gives you a small wave as you hurry out the doors. It seems all you've done today is embarrass yourself in as many situations as possible. it's getting dark, so you call an Uber and drive home. As soon as you get to your room you take off your shoes and immediately flop onto your mattress. It was an exhausting day. you think about everything that happened at work. and Michael... Why am I like this? I don't even know him and there I was, drooling over him when he was just trying to do his damn job. great first impression, dumbass. but there was something about him- he was hiding something behind that charming smile of his... whatever. What did it matter? you would see him tomorrow and could then apologize for what had happened. tired of overthinking, you got back to decorating your room- you pulled all of your favorite books and put them on some shelves, dug through the seemingly endless boxes to find your framed photographs and hung them on one of your empty walls. before you know it, it's 1:00am so you finally crawl into bed and quickly fall into a dreamless sleep.
