Chapter 10

Fours Pov
We gathered up all of the initiates in a waiting room. It was time.
"Maria" She looked up at Me as I waved her into the room.
"Here. Sit." I said as I was getting the computer ready.
"This is a stimulation. We get to see how you react to your fears."
"Wait. You can see inside my head!?! " She sounded desperate. I wonder why?
"Hmmh " I replied. Let's get this over with.
"Now Maria you are going to have to face your fears. The trick is to calm yourself" She nodded. I could see sweat rolling down her face.
"Oh and Maria? Stay strong" She smiled as her eyes started to give in.

Maria's Pov
I was terrified. I was on a boat. The boat was swishing back and forth. Suddenly I got pushed in.
"Ahhhhh" I screamed it was no use. I saw the boat keep going away. I was swimming. By myself. Suddenly these sharks came into view. I felt a bite in my leg.
"Yeeeeee oww" I screamed. I was terrified. I looked down in the bloody water. Wait.
"This isn't real" I said as I held my breath and sunk to the bottom.

I was back. I sat up. My face was all wet. My breaths were uneven.
"It's fine. Your fine" I heard four tell me. I got up over to the wall and was gaping. My heart was racing.
"Maria? How long do you think you were in there? " I thought for a second.
"I don't know. 30 minutes?" I looked up at him as he began to smile.
"Nope. 3. Three times faster than everybody else." I shook my head. That was crazy.
"Don't worry it'll be easier next time" Wait next time?!?
"I have to do it again!?! " I was panicking.
"Yeah but your a natural" I nodded my head. I got up and started walking to the door.
"Hey Maria? How did you escape the sharks?" I shrugged.
"I don't know... " I left before he could ask anymore questions.

Fours Pov
Shes divergent. SHE'S divergent. That was the only logical answer. But what if I was wrong? I needed some time. I took care of everything and headed to the control room. I look up Maria Jackson and saw her aptitude test. Erudite. That didn't make any sense though. She was good at fighting. But then again. My aptitude test person had to change my results. I wouldn't know for sure till tomorrow. I turned off the computer and went to get some sleep.

Maria's Pov
It was late. Really late. I looked over at Christina. She was sound asleep. I got up and walked around the chasm. But then I felt a presence. I turned and was shocked to see Will.
"Hey Maria. Mind if I join you?" I smirked.
"I don't know are you gonna try and kill me again?" To far I thought. To far.
"Sorry" I mumbled.
"Me too" I shook my head.
"Can we still be friends?" I looked at him.
"I don't know can we?" He looked down at me.
"Yes" He whispered. I shivered.
"Okay" I let go of the railing and went to bed.

*MORNING*
Maria's Pov
I escaped the sharks good. But now I was in a cage.
"Hey! Somebody get me out!" I looked out to my friends. They were all laughing at me.
"What?" I looked behind me. My eyes were big. Spiders. Of course. They began to crawl all over me. My screams were bouncing off the walls. I tried to break free. Then this happened.
"This isn't real" I whispered to myself. I then looked at the glass and screamed so loud that the glass broke. Now I was in a different setting. My Dad was In a chair. I was feet away from him.
"Finish the job" I heard someone say.
"What?! " I couldn't kill my own father. I had to though. I closed my eyes and.....

I was back. I heaved a big sigh of relief as I saw Four standing there.
"How did you do that?" I looked at him puzzlingly.
"I just... Did it" I said hoping he would believe me.
"You just did it?" I nodded.
"I don't think so" I looked at him shocked.
"What?" He came closer to me.
"What was your aptitude test?" I shook my head. Don't tell him.
"Erudite" I said all confident.
"I don't think so" My eyebrows raised.
"I'm going to ask you again. What was your aptitude test" I could feel the tension in his voice.
"Erudite" I said coldly.
"Fine you can leave" He said all frusterated. I looked down at my shoes and headed to the door.
"Just so you on now Maria. Dauntless don't break the glass like that" I glared at him and left.
