The ethereal light shone bright through her eyes as the feeling of calm washed over her. The wind combing through her hair as she gazed at the blue horizon. Beyond that opening laid the future. Beyond that future laid the truth. Beyond that truth was the distinction between reality and-

Y/n felt the dream wash away as her alarm clock rang. It was the start of  just another day. Or so she thought.

She got dressed in her usual attire, slid her backpack on, and walked to the bus stop. F/N's face peeked around the corner and their smile grew wider.

"Hey Y/n, are you ready for the science quiz today?"

"The what..."

"I'm kidding! The science test is on Monday!"

"What kind of monster gives a test on a Monday?"

"Miss Fleming apparently..."

"What the hell is it even on? That photon and refraction bullshit?"

"It's reflection, Y/n."

"Whatever. Who cares about the mechanics behind it? Just shine a light..."

F/n chuckled and went on their phone. Y/n took hers out but paused to see the pinkish purple sunrise. The sun's glow seemed harmless and alluring as the clouds were a faint periwinkle color.

All it did was make her more tired, but she still couldn't shake the feeling on the back of her neck. Like a spider crawling into its den, and waiting to strike when it sees its prey.

Y/n turned back to F/n to see them unblinking and engulfed in their game as their phone's high brightness illuminated their face. That was one way to keep yourself awake.

Chiaki kinnie. Y/n thought to herself as the bus turned the corner.

...

The front door unlocked with a click as Y/n flung it open. Sighing, she placed her mask on a table and began to carry her backpack upstairs with her. She paused when she saw a box on the dining room table. Her mother probably brought it in from the porch, but what was inside?

With a short snip of a pair of scissors, the box was opened. Y/n smiled as she saw the video game inside.

Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony

Without missing a beat, she dropped her backpack and ran up the stairs. She went to her desk and opened her laptop. It was old and slow but it worked all the same. Not without a few impatient taps on the screen, the side of the laptop slid out and Y/n slipped the disk inside.

...

The screen turned black

...

Y/n was more annoyed than anything.

Seriously? Two weeks of waiting for this to arrive, just for the damn laptop to break?

She slapped the palm of her hand against the upper corner as the screen began to glitch.

She paused. Nothing happened. She lightly tapped the side of the screen again.

What the hell?

Y/n bit her lip before deciding to shut the laptop down and reboot. As much as she loved electronics, she couldn't operate one for a penny.

She held down the power off button and waited for the button's illuminated light to dim.

It didn't.

She kept her finger on the button. It was Friday, she had all the time of the world until Monday.

$&#&

"Ouch!"

Y/n looked down at her finger, the computer's shock felt so strong she was certain it would leave some kind of mark. To her surprise, her hand looked perfectly fine. Against the light of her room's ceiling fan, Y/n could practically make out the skin's small indents that created her fingerprint. She blinked rapidly as the thin lines began to blur together. In fact, everything was starting to blur as her world became a mix of blurry light and fuzzy color.

She gripped the side of her bed as the world began to collide. She could make out the color of the walls, floor, and the blur of her black and white laptop that began to close in on itself.

Her laptop was silver.

In the chaos, the only sound she was able to hear was silence and an awful ringing, before the unified thud of her laptop closing and her unconscious body hitting the floor.

"Upupupu.... Looks like the game can begin!"
