The little boy tugged you along, shouting something that you couldn't quite hear over the music. Finally, you caught what he said.
"Mirabel!" He called. He called the name a few more times before a girl about your age pushed her way through the crowd.
"Antonio!" She shouted and pulled him up to a hug. He swung in her arms and you awkwardly stood there and watched with a sleepy smile as they reunited.
"Where were you? We've been searching for you for hours!" She gasped and squeezed him tightly. The little boy leaned in and said, "They told me she'd be here," He said, glancing at you. For the first time, the girl appeared to notice you. Her face lit up and you'd never seen a stranger appear to be so excited to lay eyes on you.
"The animals?" The girl asked and the boy gave a satisfied nod.
"They said they found her and wanted me to bring her to the Casita," He continued and latched onto your hand again. You stumbled forward, pushing your glasses up before they could fall again.
The girl took your hand and together you made your way up a stone hill and into the thick of the crowd.
"My name is Mirabel," The girl shouted over the music, looking back at you with a bright smile. You couldn't help but return it before introducing yourself. She had dark curly hair that was no longer than her chin and wore a beautiful dress with embroidered flowers and butterflies. Mirabel also wore glasses like you, but they were bright green which contrasted with her deep brown eyes. Was everybody in this village as beautiful as Antonio and his friend? You wondered.
"What is all this?" You asked, looking around at the dancing villagers. "Do you do this all the time?"
Antonio laughed.
"No, silly, It's a celebration! Mirabel fixed our house and brought Bruno back!" he said, and skipped past the both of you. "She brought back our gifts too!" Mirabel hurried to grab onto his hand.
"It's nothing," She said, giving a little blush. "We'll explain it all when we get to our house and you meet Abuela," She explained, and then said, "you're not from here, are you?"
You shook your head, looking at the ground. Bright green vines laced the cobblestone. Even after your long adventure, you still didn't miss your home.
"No," you replied.
"Well then, I guess you'll be staying with us for a while," Mirabel told me. And then I saw the house.

"It's huge," you breathed as you took in the view of their home. Mirabel led both you and Antonio into the building. Immediately, you were welcomed with the sound of running feet as a tall woman with bright copper hair made her way to the door. Her curls were damp as well as the ground underneath her.
"Antonio!" She gasped and pulled the little boy into her arms. "Where were you?" She asked squeezing him tightly.
Now, you were no socialist, but it was pretty clear that Antonio was a pretty popular guy in the town.
"It's okay, mama, I found her!" He said, pulling away. The woman held him at arm's length with furrowed brows. Only then did you notice the rain cloud that hung over the woman's head was slowly receding. You rubbed your eyes to make sure that you were really seeing it. How was it raining inside? There was a roof on the house!
"Her," Antonio said and then turned to point at you.
At that point, a few more people had descended down the staircase. They all looked at you and at that moment, you wanted to simply disappear. You were new and really weren't looking for attention.
