Nothing Cool 'Bout Jail, Kids

Start from the beginning

"Uh...we made the decision to not cause him a heart attack and called someone else."

His eyebrows furrowed so much that they seemed to become one. "Whodid you call?" he slurred before his expression brightened. "GHOSTBUSTERS!"

Parth, who had been looking sober and responsible as he talked to the irate Inspector, quickly coughed to hide his laugh while I facepalmed.

"No, I called Maya's husband. Thank GOD he was awake and- oh, hey, Kabir, thank you so much for making it", I said earnestly, as I turned around to see a distinguished-looking gentleman, who was Maya's long-suffering husband. He was a respectful man who usually picked up Maya from our girls' night and always asked 'How are you getting back home?' in a kind, solicitous manner.

He was also a kick-ass criminal lawyer who worked in a big law firm, so you know, a very important contact for someone whose friend has decided to become a drunk delinquent overnight.

Kabir looked as polished as ever as he nodded at me. "No problem, Dhriti. What's the issue here?" he asked, turning to the Inspector, who was viewing him suspiciously.

"Who are you?" The Inspector asked rudely.

"I am his lawyer- here's my card. Kindly explain to me what's going on and why are you threatening to book my client?"

"He punched a minister's son", the Inspector said grandly, seeming to be nettled by the high profile business card and polished presence of Kabir. "Now what do you have to say?"

There was silence as Kabir stole Krish a quick look, then looked at me, and then looked back at the Inspector. "Give me five minutes to discuss with my client", he said smoothly, before walking towards Krish and me. "Hey, what the hell happened?" he asked in a low tone.

"It was a misund-derstanding", Krish said earnestly. "Look, he wa-he was saying some seriously stupid things and -e he was not even invited and I tried to keep it-civil- but he-he went off lismits- and he keyed my car first- and even then I didn't say anything,I said I will call the police if he continues- and I did that- and then- he- went back to saying-shit- and then- I-punched him....just when the police came in." Krish completed, sounding like putting words together was a monumental effort.

"Oh, no, you called the cops on yourself?" I asked, split between a desire to yell at him and laugh. "You- what did he even say?"

At this point, even Parth had joined our conversation, and in front of me, the three men looked at each other like they were speaking their own language which couldn't be heard by my female ears.

"Do you have the CCTV footage of the event?" Kabir asked suddenly.

Krish nodded.

"Witnesses?"

"Plenty. I told them not to join in because- well, they will be on the news."

"Okay. Let me speak to the Inspector. Don't worry, I can handle this", Kabir said with a small smile, that Krish returned before he walked back to the Inspector.

I rounded on Krish. "What did he say? Why did you punch the dude? What happened?"

"I can't tell you." Krish said resolutely, even turning away from me to add weight to his conviction.

"Why not?" I demanded indignantly. "Did he say your movie was bad?"

"The movie didn't even release- du-dumbass." he scoffed.

"Did he say you have bad hair?"

"No." he rolled his eyes while Parth scoffed as well.

"Then what the hell happen-"
