Friends, Speeches, and Confessions Part 1

"No idea" you try to hold back a smile
"The team enjoys making jokes about us" He says quietly
"Yes they do" you reply finishing the sentence you were writing
"Do you know why?"

"Maybe because their own lives are boring, but I'm not sure" you laughed with him and thought about how these jokes sometimes made Spencer uncomfortable and you wanted to spare him from having this conversation
"Derek says it's because we would make a good couple"

"Oh, Derek says a lot of things" you laugh trying to lighten the mood that has fallen upon the room

"That's true... Do the jokes make you uncomfortable?" He asks looking at you
"Not really. You?"

He takes a breath and says "No"
But you're profiling him, he shys away when the team jokes, his face becomes red, palms sweaty, he shuffles awkwardly, and avoids eye contact with you.

The two of you pause looking at each other.

"I should head home, its 2am" you say looking at the clock and grabbing your bag

"No no stay here, it's fine"
"We have work in the morning" you say
"Exactly, we can just go in together" He smiles grabbing your bag from you and bringing it to his extra room
"Okay, goodnight Spence"
"Goodnight y/n" He gives you a small hug and then walks to his room

The morning comes and the two of you walk into the BAU together

"I thought I told you both not to have too much fun last night" Penelope laughs looking at Spencer

"y/n helped with my speech then stayed over... oh" Spencers eyes widen and his face goes red at the realisation of what Penelpe meant by not too much fun
This makes you laugh

"Did y/n help with anything else Pretty Boy?" Derek laughs. And there is Spencer, face red and shuffling awkwardly. You try and change the subject to spare him.

"Hmm this is an inappropriate morning conversation for the workplace Agent Derek Morgan" you state sarcastically in your best authoritarian voice heading to your desk

Penelope follows
"y/n seriously what happened?"
"Seriously? Absolutely nothing, we worked on his speech until about 2am, then I went to bed. In a separate room"
"Come on y/n when are you two finally going to admit you're madly in love with each other"

Penelope shakes your shoulders
"I am not madly in love with Spencer" you screw up your face turning away from her, to which she spins you back around

"Fine, you like him, and he likes you, admit it"
"Penelope, I am not admitting anything that doesn't exist... okay?" you say a little more serious, getting annoyed with your friend

"Fine, you'll realize though, hopefully when you do it's not too late" she smiles at you and heads back to her office

One time when you first met Spencer, you were unsure if the two of you would date or just become best friends. But you began to realzie that there was nobody you wanted to spend more time with than Spencer, and you could not ruin that friendship you had built. Eventually this leads you to push away those feelings for him. But every once and awhile they would bubble up to the surface, today was one of those days. A night at Spencer's house jokes and about you two dating was enough to bring those feelings up that you worked everso hard to push down.

The next few days were spent helping Spencer prepare for his speech at the school. Until finally the day had arrived

"You got this, we have gone over it so many times, you're going to be amazing" You hold his jittery shoulders
"What would I do without you?" he asks
"Still be telling that lightbulb joke" you smile
